ON A MISSION FOR GOD

When God sends someone to do something, when His instructions are followed, the mission will always be
successful.

Isa 14:24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I
have purposed, so shall it stand:

I. NOAH
A. God told him to prepare an ark to save mankind.
1. Gen 6:13-14 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled
with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of
gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

B. Noah did as God directed him.

1. Gen 6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

2. Gen 7:1-5 And the LORD said unto Noah , Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I
seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the
male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of
the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. For yet
seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living
substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. And Noah did according unto
all that the LORD commanded him.

II. ABRAM (ABRAHAM)

A. God sent him to a land far away where He promised him that he would become a great nation.
1. Gen 12:1-4 Now the LORD had said unto Abram , Get thee out of thy country, and from thy
kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a
great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I
will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth
be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and
Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

B. God changed Abram’s and Sarai’s names to reflect the multitude of their lineage.
1. Gen 17:5-6 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham;
for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will
make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

2. Gen 17:15-16 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name
Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I
will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

III. JOSEPH
A. Joseph wound up in Egypt because such was God’s plan.
1. Gen 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of
the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into
Egypt.
2

B. Because the Lord was with him, Joseph prospered even in slavery.
1. Gen 39:2-4 And the LORD was with Joseph , and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the
house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD
made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and
he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

C. Again, Joseph was betrayed.

1. Gen 39:7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph ;
and she said, Lie with me.

2. Gen 39:20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's
prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

D. Remember, God had great plans for Joseph.

1. Gen 39:21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the
sight of the keeper of the prison.

2. Gen 40:6-8 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they
were sad. And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying,
Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no
interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray
you.

3. Gen 41:25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh
what he is about to do.

4. Gen 41:38-40 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom
the Spirit of God is? And Pharaoh said unto Joseph , Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there
is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word
shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

5. Gen 42:6 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the
land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.

6. Gen 45:4-8 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near.
And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor
angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For
these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall
neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth,
and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God:
and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the
land of Egypt.

7. Gen 46:26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides
Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were threescore and six;

8. Ex 12:37 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred
thousand on foot that were men, beside children. (400+ years later)

IV. MOSES
A. Moses tried to help his people his way, but that did not work.
1. Ex 2:11-15 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his
brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian,
and hid him in the sand. And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove
together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who
made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And
Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to
slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down
by a well.

B. God determined to help the Israelites, but Moses was reluctant.

1. Ex 3:11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring
forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

C. God gave Moses the promise of signs to show he was sent of God.
1. Ex 4:1-5 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my
voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. And the LORD said unto him, What is
that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground,
and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine
hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and
the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

D. God promised Moses the use of his brother, Aaron, as spokesman, because he was still reluctant.
1. Ex 4:10-15 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor
since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

E. In all things, Moses and Aaron did as God directed.

1. Ex 7:5-6 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon
Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. And Moses and Aaron did as the
LORD commanded them, so did they.

F. Eventually, Israel was free.

1. Ex 12:40-41 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and
thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it
came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

2. Ex 14:30-31 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw
the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the
Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
