Super Scotsmen hosting the Super Divisional

The team busses will be rolling into Glasgow today as
the defending state champs play host to the first-ever
Eastern B-C Super Divisional Wrestling Tournament
featuring 19 teams. Two-time defending state champ
Colten Fast will be looking to rack up some team points
(as he’s about to do with his Poplar opponent above) for
Coach Jory Casterline and Crew in a quest to capture
the team title before heading to State in Shelby the
following weekend. Speaking of the busses rolling in,
if you’re bored and looking for something to do Friday
or Saturday, go and check out all the paint jobs these
cruisers sport; some of them are regular works of art!

Easy Density Rainbow
Roubie Younkin of the Valley County MSU
Extension Service came up with a dandy idea. She is
going to try and share an activity on Thursdays as there
is no school on Fridays (if they have a D or F they have
to attend that certain class. If they have no D’s of F’s
they are off on Fridays). The following “Easy Density
Rainbow” activity is from 4-H:
Have you ever noticed that it is easier to float in the
ocean than in a swimming pool? This is because of the
salt content in the ocean. The Dead Sea is a hypersaline
body of water; it contains 31% salt, whereas ocean water
generally contains 3.5% salt. Because of the salt content
in the Dead Sea, people can float in the water easier than
in the ocean. Try this activity to learn about density.
Supplies include: 1) 4-10 oz cups or containers, 2) Food
Coloring, 3) Water, 4) Straw and 5) Salt.
Directions
1. Measure out 4 containers of water with 9 ounces each.
2. Label each container ‘1’ through ’4’.
3. Drop a different color in each. It doesn’t matter how
much you use, but make them all the same amount.
4. Once you have added the color, start adding the salt:
a. Cup #1: No salt
b. Cup #2: 2 tablespoons
c. Cup #3: 4 tablespoons
d. Cup #4: 6 tablespoons
5. Stir the solutions until the salt and the food coloring
dissolve.
6. Take a clear straw and dip one end about 1 inch into
cup #1. Cover the top of the straw with your thumb so
that the solution doesn’t fall out.
7. With your thumb still on it, dip it about 2 inches into
cup #2 and quickly remove your thumb.
8. Next, put your thumb back on the top. Repeat this
action with cup #3 and cup #4.
9. There you have it – a density rainbow!

Glasgow has the mighty Mo

When it comes to tournament time teams would
like to go in with momentum. Glasgow girls feel they’ve
got it after sweeping through the weekend with two more
victories.
Glasgow wrapped up the regular season with two
wins, edging Wolf Point, 36-33, and beating Sidney, 39-
27.
The Scotties (10-6, 6-2) will meet Wolf Point one
more time tonight in an opening round game of the
District 2B tournament in Poplar. Glasgow is hoping
the third time is a charm for them and not the Wolves.
Playing Wolf Point so soon may be helpful, at least fifth-
year Glasgow coach Travis Nielsen feels it is.
“I think so. Since we got to play them just a week
ago and watching them on film between our game and
other games, it will help our girls,” said Nielsen. “I don’t
think it is going to hurt us at all, if anything it will help
us.”
Having the momentum will help Glasgow going
into the tournament.
“Especially after two in a row like that and one a
conference and one was a non-conference, but it was a
good game. It’s always nice to have that going into the
tournament,” said Nielsen.
Nielsen feels that his girls have to play their game
like they have played all year. They need to box out and
half their teammates throughout the weekend.
The Scotties may have to go the rest of the season
without senior Riley Noser, who injured her knee in a
game recently. Without Noser, who is 5-foot-10 and
has the body to get inside for rebounds and points, the
offense may change a little, but not much. Sophomore
Daley Aune has stepped up to take Noser’s place in the
line-up.
“It changes a little,” said Nielsen. “It just maneuvers
players around. But we’re still sticking to our game plan.
But we really miss Riley down low.”
Glasgow got a victory against Wolf Point Friday and
in the Wolves Den. Abrianna Nielsen and Tyann Graham
each drained a three-pointer to lead the Scotties out to
an 8-0 lead. Glasgow led 16-7 after one quarter with
Graham netting seven points and Nielsen five.
Wolf Point rallied in the second quarter where the
Wolves held Glasgow to one point. The Wolves put up
12 points behind Hamyanie Campbell’s eight points,
including two 3-pointers.
Glasgow battled back to tie the game at 28 in the
third quarter and took a 29-28 lead early in the fourth on
Blaire Westby’s free throw. Nielsen and Westby added a
bucket each, giving the Scotties a 33-28 lead. Campbell
missed the front end of a bonus situation, which Alexus
Mann made the Wolves pay for that with a three-pointer
at the other end.
Glasgow’s defense took over the rest of the game,
holding the Wolves to a three-pointer from Jaylee Azure
and a bucket from former teammate Josie Kolstad.
Graham, Westby, and Nielsen had opportunities to
increase the Scotties lead, but all three missed the front
ends of bonus free throws. Graham went to the line
with 31 seconds to play, Westby was at the line with 15
ticks left, and Nielsen with a couple of seconds to go.
Wolf Point also blew chances with turnovers and poor
selections in the Wolves shots.
“We had some things that had to be addressed
after the game and the girls have a handle on that,” said
Nielsen. “It wasn’t our worst game, but it was on that we
have to definitely improve on some little things. And we
did that this week. So I think you will see a different team
(tonight) than you did last week.”
Graham led the Scotties with 12 points, Nielsen had
nine, Aune seven, Mann five, Westby three, and Carly
Nelson two. Campbell had 15 for the Wolves, Kolstad
nine, Azure seven, and Je’lle Garfield two.
Glasgow led most of the way against Sidney, which
was Senior-Parent Night. The Scotties led 15-13 at the
break and 26-20 after three quarters.
“That was a good game for the girls,” said Nielsen.
“Sidney is kind of a different animal than the rest of the
Class A mentality. The girls really had to work at what we
were trying to get accomplished. Overall I thought we
played better Saturday than we did on Friday, especially
on defense. One the offensive end we had a little lull. But
we finally pulled away from them. It was a good win for
us and a good game for us, especially a night after Wolf
Point.”
