JOB APPLICATION LETTER

A job application letter is a letter that you write to a company when you are applying
for a job. A job application letter is often called a cover letter. A good application letter should
make an employer interested enough to read your application thoroughly and call you for an
interview. A simple but well-written application cover letter introduces to the prospective
employer, explains why you are applying for a particular job, highlights your qualification,
demonstrates your writing and communication skills and allows for future contact.

When and where did you see the position advertised? If it is not advertised, state how
you got the information about the vacant position.

6. Body of letter
Demonstrate confidently that your skliis, background and experience are suitable with
the desired job requirements. Mention specific qualifications which make you a good fit
for the employee’s needs. Mention how your personal skills enhance and support your
technical abiities and state that you would highly regard an oppurtunity to work for the
company

7. Closing paragraph.
State your availability for an interview or test and include your contact number or
e-mail.

8. Closing
Yours sincerely/ Yours faithfully

9. Signature.

Language Features of job application letters


When we write a job application letter, we usually use simple present tense.
Sometimes, we use simple past tense especially when we are talking about our education
and last experience. We can also use present perfect tense when we write about unfinished
actions that started in the past and continue to the present.

The following are some tips that you should know when writing a job application
letter:
a. Be friendly and professional
b. Be enthusiastic, but do not beg
c. Use simple and natural language
d. Use positive words and phrases
e. Make your letter short and to the point but interesting to read.

The following are some expressions or phrases usually used in writing job application
letters.

Curriculum Vitae
In a job application package, we usually enclose a resume or curriculum vitae.
A curriculum vitae commonly referred to as CV. Is longer (two or more pages). More
detailed synopis tha a resume. It contains a summary of your educational and academic
background as well as working experience, awards, honors and other details.
When you apply for a job, you should submit your curriculum vitae (CV) along with
your application letter. A curriculum vitae includes your personal information and
descriptions of your education, employment or training, other skiils and accompishments.
Your CV is one of the most important documents in your job seeking because it provides the
vital first impression to the company who may employ you.

A Curriculum Vitae should contain the following:


PERSONAL DATA
This component is preseted at the top part of the CV. It includes your full name and other
necessary and relevant data, along with your contact details, to ease potential employers
to communicate with you regarding your application. Along with today’s progressing world
of social media, it may be useful to include the links to your social media accounts.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
This is where you should summarize and highlight what you can offer to prospective
employers. Summarize your educational data in an efficient format, easily readable and at
the same time, attractive.

EMPLOYMENT/WORK EXPERIENCES
This section should include your work history in a chronological order, startinng from the
most current job. This section may also contain details of experiences you gained through
relevant training programs you had attended.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
A list of your organizational skills and experiences may serve useful to highlight your
strength in leadership, teamworking and social interaction.

HOBBIES & INTERESTS


This is where you can highlight the areas of your interest, apart from your professional
fields. This feature, however, is optional.

REFERENCES
This part states the contact information of your previous employers who are wiling to give
information about you. Sometimes, this part only contains the sentence “References are
available upon request”.

Job Interview
A job interview is a meeting organized by a recruiter used to evaluate a potential
employee for prospective employment at a company. Most of interviews will feature
questions about a candidate’s work history, personality, work style and other factors relevant
to the job.
The following some common questions in job interview and the answers as the examples.

Common interview strategies apply for all general interview answers. These include
the following things;
1. Be positive. Avoid any negative answers
2. Show your commitment
3. Answer directly. Prepare yourself before you go for an interview to ensure your answers
are straight and to the point.

Passive Voice.
The characteristics of Passive:
A. Object in an active sentence become subject in a passive sentence.

C. Subject in an active sentence become a doer in a passive sentence and we use by.

If the subject in an active sentence: somebody, anybody, someone, anyone (unknown) then
it is not important to mention the doer.
Example: Active = Someone has stolen his bicycle.
Passive = His bicycle has been stolen.

The passive voice can be used in various tenses. Study the following examples.
