Magnetic effect of current.
1. Discuss analogies and differences between coulumb’s law and
Biot-savart’s law.
2. Why do we not simply define the direction of the magnetic
induction induction B in which the magnetic force acts on a
moving charge?

4. Is magnetic field uniform for all points within a circular loop of


wire carrying a current? Explain.
5. A current is sent through a vertical spring from whose lower end a
weight is hanging. What will happen?
6. Two long straight wires pass near one another at right angles. If the
wires are free to move, describe what happen when current are sent
through them both.
7. A messy loop of flexible wire is placed on a frictionless table and
anchored at point a & b as shown in the figure. If a current i flows
through it, will it try to form a circular loop or will it try to bunch

13. A current I Amp is flowing along the sides of an equilateral triangle.


Of sides 4.5 x 10-2m. Find the magnetic field at the centroid of the
triangle.

14. A length of wire carries a steady current. It is bent first to form a


circular plane coil of one turn. The same length is now bent more sharply
to give a double loop of smaller radius. When the same current passed,
find the ratio of the magnetic field at the centre which is first value.

20. A Galvanometer has a sensitivity of 60 divs/Amp. When a shunt is


used, its sensitivity becomes 10 divs/Amp. What is the value of shunt
used if the resistance of Galvanometer is 20Ω? (4Ω)

21. Two similar coils of radius R and number of turns N are lying
concentrically with their planes at right angle to each other. The current
flowing in them are I & 2I respectively. What is the resultant magnetic
field at the centre would be?

22. Two identical coils each of radius ‘r’ and having n number of turns
are lying in perpendicular planes, such that they have common centre.
Find the magnetic field at the centre of the coils, if they carry currents

in both the cases, find the ratio of the magnetic field produced at the

distance from the centre on the axis of the circular wire will the magnetic

Find the magnetic flux through a half of the wire’s cross-section per one

26. (a) A current is set up along a copper pipe. Is there any magnetic
field(1) in side and (2) out side the pipe?
(b) Can a magnetic field independent of time, change the velocity of a
charged particle?
(c) Prove that the percentage error in measuring the voltage across a
resistor r by a voltmeter of resistance R (current remaining unchanged) is

(a) the magnitude and direction of the magnetic induction that will cause
the electron to follow a semicircular path from A to B which are 10 cm
apart.(b) the time required for the electron to move from A to B.

32.A particle of charge q and mass m moves in a circular orbit of radius


R with angular speed ω. Find the ratio of the magnitude of it’s magnetic
moment to that of it’s angular momentum.
