DISASSEMBLY
• Remove the 17 Torx bit transfer case

• Release the transfer case rear output

Once you’ve released the snap ring,
you can pry the transfer case halves
apart using opposing pry bars along
the case bosses.

it’s important to understand how Ford
operates forward engagement for this
transmission. When you shift into drive,
the manual lever position sensor signals
the PCM that the lever is in drive.
At the same time, the manual
valve opens a path to several valves.
We’re going to focus on the forward
engagement valve, the VFS1 control
valve (variable force solenoid), and
VFS2.
During initial engagement, the PCM
modulates pressure control solenoid B

Robert Bateman
Robert Bateman has been in the industry for over 45 years. A
graduate from Motech Technical College of the Chrysler Corporation
and former rebuilder, Robert started doing Spanish translations for
ATSG in Mexico in 2005. In 2008, Robert began translating and
presenting ATRA seminars throughout Central, South and North
America. In 2014, Robert joined Seal Aftermarket Products as a
technical advisor doing research and development of new products
along with writing bulletins, live workshops in the U.S. and doing
seminars in Latin America.

Mike Souza
Before joining Seal Aftermarket Products, Mike was a senior
technical advisor for ATRA handling tech calls, writing bulletins
and articles for GEARS magazine as well as presenting worldwide
seminars. Prior to ATRA, Mike worked for ATSG, handling technical
