1 Preparation for Indoor Distribution

Site acquisition

Identify the target

coverage buildings based
on the client’s needs.

Preliminary survey
Building information (structure and
layout);
Surrounding network information;

Measure
ensure the min. level required to
Coverage;
Preliminary design.

System design
Identify the antenna connector EIRP (propagation
measurement and model calculation);
Design the distributed system (antenna installation
position, feeder cable route, power budget and propagation
loss);

Select the signal source (based on loss and traffic);

Scheme Design

2 Types of Indoor Distribution

The equipower splitting is adopted when a NodeB is located on a floor in the middle of a building and
upward and downward cables are symmetrically distributed, while the non-equipower splitting is
adopted in the case of asymmetrical distribution.

4.4 High Gain Directional Antenna Used in Lifts

Usually, Yagi high gain directional antennas are used in lifts. However, because in
an indoor distributed system, the antenna bandwidth is required to be broad enough
to accommodate all the frequency bands available, Yagi antennas are not the ideal
choice for such a system. Yagi antennas are used only when the carrier has a
WCDMA system only. In this case, log periodic antennas with an extremely broad
bandwidth are used in lifts.
