Clementine: Fabric Flower Bobby Pin Tutorial

Time required: 1 hour Eye

Materials:

 Candle
 10” x 10” fabric* (see end of tutorial)
 E6000 adhesive or hot glue and gun
 Bobby pin
 Scissors
 2” x 2” craft felt
 Button with eye
 Toothpick
 Scrap paper
 Ruler/ Tape measure Steps 6 & 7

Steps:

1. Cut 3 circles of fabric 3 inches in


diameter. Set aside.
2. Cut 3 circles of fabric 1.5 inches in
diameter. Set aside.
3. Cut one circle of felt one inch in
diameter. Set aside.
4. Light the candle.
5. Select one large cut out to singe.
6. Slowly bring the edge of the fabric circle
toward the flame from the side until it Step 10
starts to singe. The fabric should start
singing before it reaches the flame. Do
not put the fabric directly into the
flame. Caution: Be careful not to burn
yourself.
7. Rotate the fabric until the edge has
been singed all around. Set aside.
8. Repeat Step 7 for the remaining cuts of
fabric.
9. You will not need the candle anymore
so blow it out.
10. Stack the singed fabric cut outs on top
of each other curled side up with the
Step 11
small pieces on top of the larger pieces.
11. Find the center of the cut outs and poke
the scissors through.

12. Open the scissors to create a hole large


enough to fit the back of the button
through.
13. Holding the fabric cut outs firmly
together, remove the scissors.
14. Push the button eye through the slit in
the fabric.
15. Slip one side of the bobby pin through
the button eye.
16. Set the flower aside.
17. Pick up the felt cut out and scissors. Step 12 Steps 14 & 15
18. Slice the felt one time from the edge to
the center. Do not cut a V shape.
19. Insert the felt between the two sides of
the bobby pin.
20. Open the E6000 adhesive and squeeze
a dime sized amount onto the scrap
paper.
21. Close the adhesive.
22. Lay the flower face down and pull back
half of the felt cut out.
23. Dip the toothpick in the adhesive and
apply it to the underside of the felt. Step 18 Step 19
24. Compress the felt to the fabric.
25. Repeat the last three steps for the
other side of the felt cut out.
26. Lay the flower face down and let dry for
24 hours.
27. Discard the remaining adhesive on the
paper.
28. Congratulations! You are all done.

*Polyester, satin and nylon are all good


materials to start with.

*E6000 adhesive can be replaced with hot glue. Steps 22 & 23 Step 24
All you need is hot glue and a hot glue gun.
Don’t use the toothpick though. Just apply the
hot glue directly to the fabric.

*Adjust the diameter size of the fabric to make


larger or smaller flowers. Step 28
