Workplace Policies and Procedures

It is essential to combine individual and organizational strategy and actions to influence health in the
overall workplace health programmed, including:

Health policies – structured or informal written statements to protect or encourage the health of
employees. Supporting health programmed at work impact large numbers of people at the same time
and make it much easier for them to embrace healthier behaviors. They can also develop and promote a
company health culture

 Health policies include: Examples of health policies

 Prohibition measures on occupational use of tobacco and alcohol
 Policies which require the provision of healthy foods at business meetings and events
 Policies that allow flexibility to exert or participate in health programmed

Policies not directly linked to health can affect employees' health. The desired health targets should be
taken into consideration in developing human resources strategies such as work hours, leave (i.e.
holiday time), a flexible timing, work organizations and supervisory styles.

Health workplace programmed, including training, mentoring and other employer development
programmed, are not add-on incentives, but basic investment in human resources.

The programmed should strive to: whatever interventions are chosen,

 Use a number of approaches for a particular health problem, for example combining legislation
and a health benefit intervention. Combinations are more efficient than just one procedure.
 Use approaches that simultaneously resolve various health problems that are more successful
than addressing individual health concerns separately

Policies and procedures in relation to health and safety that are in the Healthcare workplace,

For example, 'we will provide a workplace free from risk' or 'we plan to minimize our rate of injuries.'
The strategy should start with a declaration about your overall safety goal.

Then it is important to say how you are going to do these stuff.

 Providing a health and safety-free working climate.

 Provision/conservation of secure facilities, structures and protection work processes ensuring
the safe use, maintenance and storage of equipment, structures and substances.
 providing appropriate workers' welfare facilities (for example, toilets and tea rooms).
 Providing information to protect people from threats to their health and safety that result from
job practices, training, instruction or supervision.
 Ensure that employees' health and working conditions are controlled to avoid disease or injury.
Consultation with employers on both health and safety issues

Safety procedures:

Safe working procedures provide a convenient and reliable means of ensuring protection for everyone.
It goes without saying that:

 record the sequence of steps to safely execute the task

 Including in these phases the requisite risk management measures.

When taught how to use a proper work method, everyone in the workplace will know the safe way to do
their job, and will work the same way. They won’t need to guess or make it up as they move along.

Be specific

Your healthy work processes should be targeted specifically at your workplace, equipment and
chemicals—and if possible, any workplace in your organization.

 When/where this is particularly important:

 Your procedures are for risk-carrying tasks such as building work or dangerous chemicals
 Your job is complex or extensive
 You have clear emergency procedural conditions
 Certification/licensing standards specific to employees who use or perform those
processes/tasks are defined.

Health, Safety and Welfare Act 2005 (employer and employee’s duties regarding this legislation)

In order to make more provisions for the security, health and wellness of people working, the
Protection, Health and Welfare Law 2005, which repealed and replaced Safety, Health and Welfare at
Work Act 1989, was introduced. The Act clarifies and strengthens responsibility for safety and health at
work for employers, self-employed workers, staff and numerous other parties. The Act outlines also the
Health and Safety Authority's position and duties, lays down a variety of implementable disciplinary
actions and lays down sanctions for breaches of safety and health at work.

Employers (the term includes self-employed workers) are obligated to administer the health and safety
of employees and others at work, as far as reasonably possible.

Employees shall ensure that their own and any other individual whose actions or omissions might affect
them are protected with due care in order to protect their life, health and welfare. Employees need to
cooperate with the employer to ensure safety, safety and wellbeing in the workplace and report any
hazards to their employers at work.

Managing health and safety

The 2005 Act stresses the need for workers to control safety, health and well-being at work to avoid
accidents and health problems in the workplace. Initial assessment of the safeguards, health and welfare
arrangements in place. It involves the development of a health and security policy which confirms the
commitment of the employer and management to ensure a safe and healthy job. It requires the
identification, tracking and monitoring of the performance of the required standards.

Emergency planning and reporting process in workplace

An significant part of OH&S services is a definite strategy for addressing major emergencies.

In addition to providing guidance in an emergency, it has other benefits to establish the plan. You may
discover dangerous situations that are not known, which will intensify an emergency and work to
remove them. The preparation process may lead to shortcomings such as lack of resources or items that
are able to be addressed before an emergency occurs (equipment, skilled staff, supplies). An emergency
plan also encourages safety consciousness and demonstrates the organization’s dedication to workers'
safety.

The absence of an emergency plan could lead to significant losses including many losses and the
organization's potential financial failure.

Pre-planning is important since emergencies arise. An emergency will result in confusion if decisions are
made quickly, there is a lack of time, resources and well-trained staff. In case of emergency, time and
conditions mean that usual authority and communication can not be relied on regularly. The tension of
the situation can lead to serious losses due to poor judgement. A well-created, well-organized
emergency response plan would help to resolve these problems.

Elements of emergency plan:

Includes the emergency plan:

 Any emergencies, effects, measures required, written protocols and available resources.
 Detailed immediate response staff rosters, including mobile phone numbers, other contact
information and roles and obligations.
 Plans for the floor.
 Wide maps with evacuation routes and service lines (such as gas and water lines).
Given the probable outcome of a significant document, the strategy should provide personnel with
separate and written guidance on their specific emergency response responsibilities.

Examples of emergency plan sections are given below. These elements cannot cover every workplace
situation but are an overall guide when a particular workplace plan is drawn up.
