Solar battery
The first solar photocell was called a solar battery. The technology of obtaining a silicon
battery, the physical and technical basis of work. Modern solar batteries significantly
exceed the characteristics of batteries created in the 50's and are widely used in various
areas of the economy.
The solar battery so named the first silicon photocell. This photocell was created in 1953
and represents a converter of radiant energy into electrical energy with a very high
efficiency of 6% for this class of instruments.
Silicon is an element possessing semiconductor properties, located in the IV group of the
periodic system, the second most abundant element in nature. Its atomic weight is 28.06,
and the atomic number is 14. The melting point of crystalline silicon is 1415 ° C, and the
boiling point is 2360 ° C. The electrical conductivity of silicon varies widely, depending on
the grade and the number of impurities introduced into it. Like the other three elements of
group IV, silicon has a diamond-type lattice.
