Chapter 1

“Address of SENATOR LETICIA RAMOS SHAHAN! before the National

Academy of Science and Technology at its 15th Annual Scientific Meeting, 7
July 1993, Manila”

After reading the article of Senator Shahani, I agree that everything she said about the
Moral Recovery Program, Ethics, and Politics, Vision, Individual and National Transformation,
and on Human Values Are Powerful Building Blocks is correct because I believe they are what a
country needs to be more prosperous.

Having the goal to empower people not only the rich but also the poor to value human
values and their moral capacity, to solve whatever problem our country faces. The benefits and
role of the Moral Recovery Program in the development of a country are great, it just shows that
a country should have a Moral Recovery Program because in developing a country it does not
only measure the cultural, political, and economic dimension but also the Moral and Ethical.

When it comes to ethics and politics, I agree that if we practice or pay attention to self-
discipline, honesty, our responsibility to our society, the ability to help, and our love for the
country, we can avoid the problems of our country such as corruption, massacres, clashes of
different sides with the government, and even our debts abroad, I believe that politics is
intertwined with the principle of ethical conduct of an individual in society.
 As for what Senator Shahani said on the Vision issue, I also agree with her that a country
should have a clear vision, provide long-term inspiration to the people of the country, which will
shed light on the people of the country in the midst of darkness, and awaken the citizens to make
the impossible possible, by having a good vision of a nation, the unity of every member of
society will be achieved.

I agree more with Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani in what she said that both the structure
of society and the individual must be changed because it both affects the country's economy and
both of them affect each other. Because in my view the individuals themselves are destroying the
structure of our society because the individuals in the low state or the poor are not empowered so
it is necessary to strengthen and give an opportunity to the poor because it is also important to
our country.

I also believe that human value is also powerful and necessary to the development of a
country, our importance as an individual contributes to the growth and development of our
country, the decisions we make reflect our values and beliefs and it is always directed towards a
goal and this goal is to perform well with dignity and moral, conduct every role we play not only
in our society but also for our country.
