Harvard Book Store is an independent locally owned and operated bookstore
serving the greater Cambridge, MA area. It has been family‐owned since 1932.
Sustainability Challenges
A number of sustainability challenges specific to
Harvard Book Store were identified by the SBLP
and the business, including:
• Inefficient lighting and mechanical systems,
resulting in inflated electricity bills
• Lack of water conservation measures,
resulting in water wastage and added costs
• Limited waste management practices
• No long‐term sustainability management plan
