SECTION 07270

FIRESTOPPING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Through-penetration firestopping system for penetrations through the following:

1. Through-penetrations fire-resistance-rated floor and roof construction.

2. Through-penetrations through fire-resistance-rated walls and partitions.

3. Through-penetrations through smoke barriers and construction enclosing

compartmentalized areas.

4. Through-penetration through other areas as indicated on drawings.

5. Sealant joints in fire-resistance-rated construction.

B. All utilities including pipes, ducts, wire and cables, cable trays, etc. passing
through fire rated walls, floors, roof, ceiling and other similar areas shall have
firestopping with fire rating similar to the area where it is passing.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit product data manufacture's surface preparation, installation instructions and

samples under provisions of sections 01300.

B. Sample installation : provide sample installations of each type of firestopping

required under this section and obtain the Engineer's approval of materials, colour
and workmanship before proceeding with the work. Samples may become part of
the completed installation . size of samples shall be adequate to represent
completed work.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer : Generally obtain materials only from a manufacturer .

B. Installer : A firm with a minimum of 5 year successful experience in the application

of the types of materials required.

C. Mock-Up : prepare a mock- up installation at the site of each major type and use of
firestopping for approval of the Architect/Engineer.

D. Certification: Letter in regard to fitness and compatibility with joint surfaces, joint
fillers etc.

E. Additional test criteria

Tests shall be performed on samples with a range of joint widths and with a range
of temperatures which can be expected, with a maximum joint width of 50 mm in a
single application.

1.5 WARRANTY

A. Provide 10 years warranty under provisions of sections 01700. replace firestoppings

which fail because of loss of cohesion or adhesion, or do not cure.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Fire-Resistant for Metal Pipes: One component fire stop silicone sealant. Sealant
cures in the presence of atmospheric moisture to produce an elastic seal.

B. Fire-Resistant Sealant for Cladding Construction Joints: One component fire stop
silicone sealant. Sealant cures in the presence of atmospheric moisture to
produce an elastic seal.

C. Fire-Resistant Mastic for PVC Pipe (Less than 50 mm): One component, graphite
mastic with intumescent fire rated properties. The mastic possesses good
spreading characteristics, and cures under atmospheric conditions to form a

smooth and tack-free seal.

D. Fire-Resistant Jackets for PVC Pipe (50 mm to 200 mm): Preassembled system
consisting of graphite intumescent layer contained within a cylindrical galvanized
steel housing.

E. Fire-Resistant Mastic for Single Bunched Cables: One component, graphite

mastic with intumescent fire rated properties. The mastic possesses good
spreading characteristics, and cures under atmospheric conditions to form a
smooth and tack-free seal.

F. Fire-Resistant Mortar/Putty for Cable trays:

1. Light-Weight Mortar: One component hydraulic curing, fire resistant

cementitious mortar with vermiculite additives to provide excellent thermal
insulation.

2. Prevention Intumescent Putty: One component water-based putty with

intumescent fire rated properties.

G. Fire-Resistant Cushion for Temporary Installations: Consists of a polyurethane

coated fibre glass skin in the outer bag and the inner polyethylene bag is filled with
a homogeneous mixture of graphite-based granulate.

2.2 ACCESSORIES

A. Dam Material: Mineral fiberboard or cement board unless otherwise recommended

by manufacturer of firestopping materials.

B. Retainers: Type as recommended by manufacturer of firestopping materials.

2.3 FINISHES

A. Color: Dark gray for concealed areas. Color at exposed areas shall be as selected
by the Engineer from manufacturer standard product range of colors.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that openings are ready to receive the Work of this Section.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean substrate surfaces of dirt, dust, grease, oil, loose material, or other matter
which may affect bond of firestopping material.

B. Remove incompatible materials which affect bond.

C. Install backing materials to arrest liquid material leakage.

3.3 APPLICATION

Firestopping
