The Crucible

Extra Credit Opportunities

Option One:
Draw a picture of the upper bedroom of Reverend Samuel Parris’ house, as
described on page 914. Follow the descriptions of the room to draw what you
believe Arthur Miller wanted it to look like.

Option Two:
Select an incident or encounter from The Crucible to use as a basis for
developing an "added" scene to the play. Give careful attention to sustaining
the personalities and linguistic properties that Miller attaches to any
characters they use from the original script. You must also explain, in a short
paragraph, specific ways your added scene would enhance the play.

Option Three:
If you are interested, you can investigate the biographical background of
some the characters who were actually involved in the Salem trials; like John
Proctor, Judge Hathorne, Giles Corey, etc. Write a paragraph giving
biographical facts and how this person was involved in the Salem Witch
Trials. Make sure to cite your sources.
