This is an educational research and development (R & D) study.

The subject of the


study is eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School Al-Mahrusiyah Kediri.
The procedure of the studyconcludes some ways: conducting need analysis
survey, exploration of need, contextual realisation of materials, pedagogical
realisation of materials, production of materials,try out, and expert validation.
The try out is in experimental way and the study involves two experts.

There are three kinds of questionnaires used in this study. Those are need
analysis survey, questionnaire for students’ respond and validation of the experts.
The data from need survey and students’ respond are calculated in percentage.
The survey is used as a basis to develop the interactive multimedia. The respond
of the students is important to know their interest into the media. The data from
expert validation is presented quantitatively and converted into descriptive
analysis whereas the comments used to revise the first draft to be the final
product of interactive multimedia.

The result of the study shows that the students want to use English as a means of
communication both in spoken and written. Related to the reading, the students
want to enrich their vocabulary but they do not understand most of them. And
they need a media beside a textbook in learning narrative text. After the students
try the developed interactive multimedia, they are interested in it. They can
understand the materials easily and the way to do the exercise and the test is
joyful.The result of the pre test and post test show the improvement of the
students’ achievement. Based on expert validation, the score of content quality is
4,7 and for instructional quality is 4,6. The score of technical quality is 4,6 and
programming quality is 4,5. All of the score is more than 4,2.

It can be conclude that the interactive multimedia is very good.It can be used in
the teaching learning process in the classroom. The strengths of the product is the
easiness of producing it. It does not need internet. It is off line application. It need
only the creativity of the developer. Lectora Inspire provide a test in a single file
with the text of materials explanation. It is appropriate to teach reading since it
needs assessment in the end of the reading materials.
Although the media is very good, it has some weaknesses. First, Lectora Inspire is
usually for e-learning or small class. It should be one students one computer but
in this study, that is very hard to do. Teacher can use projector to apply it in the
large class. Second, the product is displsyed with electronic tools. So that,
electricity is very important to apply this media. The last, it is not suitable for
students who have kinestetic learning sytle because it contents audio visual
media.

The suggestion is addressed to the students, teacher, and other reseacher. The
students should be more aware about interactive multimedia. For the teachers,
they should be more creative to make learning media to deliver the materials in
the classroom. For other researchers, this research will inspire them to do the
further research.
