Opportunities assignment

The ability to socialize in a creative environment is as important for an artist as

the realization of his creative potential. Contemporary art, for the most part,
communicates with us, through visual education, the possibility of entering
foreign art spaces, also use an excellent statement of your person in the world of
creative people. These circumstances prompted me to search for various
exhibition spaces, both in Russia and abroad. As a result of my search, I found two
very attractive places for me. They turned out to be; Come In, Cultural Center on
Taganka and Transmission Gallery in Glasgow. It would be very interesting to
compare them. Come In, in turn, is a private place rented by the artists
themselves, who live not as a corporation, but as a creative community. It is
interesting how, using the example of these two places, one can describe and
compare the position of the artist in the Russian and European society. To analyze
all the advantages and disadvantages, and also to make sure once again that the
criterion of the best for a place is determined by the dreams and goals of the
artist himself, and not by the generally accepted opinion formed by phlegmatic
art critics.

I would like to start with a description of the "Come In" cultural center on
Taganka, which I have not only visited it many times, but also know the artists
who live there. This place breathes creativity inside and out, including many
different studios and sections. The dwellings of the artists themselves are also
located there, which also serve as their workshops. I even had the privilege of
being an apprentice to the craftsmen there, helping them with various projects. I
remember how we drew antique vases for an interactive exhibition on the theme
of ancient Greece. There I learned to work with penoplex, polyurethane foam and
various types of paint. Participated in creative collaborations between different
disciplines. With joy in my heart, I remember the days I spent at Come In. But the
most important thing is that, being a guest and observer, I was able to assess the
life of the original creative community from different angles. And with great
pleasure I will list the pros and cons that I found there for myself. Starting with
the pros, I will say that the amount of free time is completely unlimited. This is an
absolute freelance, but here you will not be left alone. It is a society of
interdependent freelancers who support each other. As a result, we get a
semblance of creative anarcho-communism, with a variegated shade of
spirituality. Also, this place can become an exhibition space. There is an extensive
lounge, which artists often use as a personal gallery. Little of! This personal gallery
can serve as a small theater, stage for performances, and space for lectures,
parties, trainings and much more. One of the main advantages of the fireplace is
its versatility and the ability to organize an unlimited variety of projects. The main
disadvantage is that this community is deprived of state support and stable
income for monthly maintenance of its existence. Artists have to rely on their
abilities, both creative and social. Also, despite the number of moves, in the field
of creative experiments, the place itself is not known as Tate Modern or
Transmission. Therefore, its zone of influence in the field of mass culture is not
that great. Here the artists find themselves in the position of feudal lords and
autocrats. And all the administrative difficulties are nothing more than payment
for absolute freedom. I would like to hold an exhibition there because of the
warm, friendly atmosphere, and the possibility of momentary collaborations with
the masters. I am attracted by the feeling of freedom and strong community that
can become your support in a difficult, creative life.
Turning to "Transmission Gallery", I want to note that despite state support, this
organization also advocates community and identity. Digging deeper into its
history, you can see that it was founded by graduates of art universities,
dissatisfied with
the prospects in
Scotland. After
long and diligent
attempts, they
managed to build
their artistic
community, which
became, more
and more famous,
even outside Glasgow. This organization provides great opportunities for
collaboration and joint projects. It is based on modern, fine art, but does not
hesitate to conduct lectures and various educational events. Despite its
opposition to the mainstream, characteristic of distinctive, creative organizations,
Transmission has been able to gain great popularity in cities such as Belfast,
London, Chicago and Cologne. I was interested in the aspiration of this
organization to help young people and support talents from all over the world. Its
high prevalence does not tie it to a specific place. Due to this, it is much easier to
develop as an international artist. You can get a dozen connections from different
countries, and gain invaluable experience of collaborations with the best
representatives of the creative international.
Comparing these two organizations, you can immediately notice the difference in
their goals, in the reason for their emergence. Come In was created by the efforts
of accomplished masters, without state support, with the aim of creating an
assemblage point for creative people of different directions who want to move to
a new stage of finding themselves. It does not set Itself a goal of becoming a
world, international organization, just as he does not set a goal to engage in
patronage, if only not on the initiative of specific individuals in the community.
The Transmission Gallery was founded by students looking for creative
opportunities in modern Scotland. The reason for their association was the need
and desire to promote young talents. The two commonwealths have something in
common in that they both provide enormous space for collaboration between
different artists. Originality and unwillingness to follow the mainstream are
welcomed here and there. But do not forget that Come In includes not only
artists, but also musicians, poets, art directors and others. The transmission
gallery is mainly based on contemporary art. Come In is, first of all, a place where
artists have not only an exhibition area, but also rooms for living. It looks like a
cozy home. The transmission gallery is more about people than a place. Like
Marxism, it spreads to different cities, in the circles of young students, eager for
new opportunities. Also, Come In does not have an official management system,
since it does not need to widely disseminate its brand, but at the same time the
masters living there are in great demand and many orders. Transmission has a
similar governing body, set to organize large-scale projects and liaise with
government support. Come In is where everyone comes in, and the Transmission
Gallery is where everyone comes from.
To summarize all of the above, I want to state that both places are good, but for
different purposes and for different stages of creative life. Come In is attended by
those who have already passed a large part of their creative path, teachers who
are ready to forever learn from each other and teach the suffering beginners who
want to master their skills. Those who are at the origins of their path and those
who are ready to give them great opportunities in the world of art gather in
Transmission. I would like to exhibit in both places, but Come In is still closer to
me, because I have friends there. And here in Russia, everyone loves to do
everything out of friendship.
