In the inspection, the units and rooms observed are:
1. Intake pump 2. Chlorine gas and chemical PAC room 3. Coagulation and flocculation units 4. Clarifier tanks 5. Filtration tanks 6. Storeroom 7. Evacuation route The inspection of each unit and room mentioned above will be further explained below. 1. Intake pump. They’re using the raw water from Kalimalang river. The pipe they’re using for conveying the water is underground and are using gravitational force to make it flowing from the river to the treatment plant. The intake pump room is really noisy, and they have provided ear muffs for the workers and visitors if they want to go inside the room. But, the stairs for going down to the room is a little slippery because it was raining, and there were no safety shoes provided for visitors. 2. Chlorine gas and chemical PAC room. The chlorine gas room and chemical PAC room have met the safety standard. They have adequate lighting in the room, the also have labelled all the tanks according to the contents, characteristic of the content, and safety procedure. The room also have good ventilations. In the chlorine gas room there is also a leak detector. 3. Coagulation and flocculation units. The coagulation unit is no longer using static mixer, they only do the chemical dosing in the pipe because it will save more energy. But there is no label of pipe information, there is only flow direction labels. The flocculation unit is using hydraulic jump, even though they have agitators, because it will save energy as well. The stairs for going up to the flocculation tank is not in a really good condition, it is already rusty. They need to repaint the stairs. 4. Clarifier tanks. The clarifier used is the circular clarifier. The units are well- maintained. But when I wanted to go up to the area of unit, the cantilever of the roof is too low so I was almost got stumbled. They need to consider the height of people that would come in, so the accident can be avoided. 5. Filtration tanks. The filtration unit is using silica as the filter. The units are well- maintained. But in the aisle above the tanks, there are some holes for pulling the handle below the aisle, but there is no warning sign for the hole. They should put some signs so that the workers can be more careful. 6. Storeroom. The storeroom is really messy. The put some things that are not used in the storeroom. They even put some fire extinguishers, which I’m not sure whether it still can be used or not, in the storeroom improperly. The storeroom should be cleaned up and the fire extinguishers should be put properly. 7. Evacuation route. The evacuation route is really easy to access. The door is easy to access, and road for the evacuation is clear and unobstructed, and the assembly point is easy to access. Overall, Jababeka’s Water Treatment Plant II is well-maintained and safe enough to do the work. The ventilations, lightings, safety procedures, warning signs, and emergency equipment are good and well-maintained. But they’re still missing some details, like information label for pipes, warning signs for obstruction, height of cantilever, and rusty metals.
