Overview
The BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Information Systems,
delivered online by NCC Education and validated and awarded by
the University of Wales, has been designed to prepare students for
employment in the IT sector. The programme equips students with
a blend of technical IT skills and business expertise that will
prepare them to successfully meet the challenges of various senior
management IT roles. The programme modules are designed to
provide students with the fundamental skills and knowledge
required by employers in the IT sector.
The final year online top-up programme is a natural progression
from the NCC Education International Advanced Diploma in
Computer Studies, currently offered by NCC Education as part of
the International Degree Journey.
Entry Requirements
On entry a student must have the following:
• The NCC Education International Advanced Diploma in
Computer Studies (IADCS) having obtained a mark of at least 50%
at the first attempt in half the credits of the programme and a
mark of 40% in the remaining credits.
Programme Structure
The programme is made up of six 15-credit modules, each of
which requires an average of 150 hours of study and a project
module which accounts for 30 credits and requires approximately
300 hours study. Modules comprise of weekly video lectures,
tutorial exercises and live chat sessions with subject experts.
Students also interact with other students from around the world
and with subject experts through discussion forums.
In normal full-time delivery, the programme is delivered in two 15-
week semesters (12 teaching weeks) in which four modules are
studied. Part-time students study two modules per semester over
four semesters, with the project being studied over two semesters.
• Advanced Database Management Systems - builds upon the
student's general understanding of database systems, ensuring that
the student develops significant knowledge of the major topics
(both theoretical and practical) relating to the development and
management of modern database systems. The module introduces
current database research topics, thereby increasing students’
understanding of future trends and the latest developments in the
field.
• Corporate Communication Systems Management - enables students
to understand the management of telecommunications and computer
networks for corporate systems and the underlying technologies,
including network management, communications media and services,
global availability and reliability, eCommerce and internet services.
• Information Systems Project - aims to provide the opportunity for
in-depth individual study of a specialised area of computing and
information systems; to develop the student’s ability to tackle a
selected problem of significant scale and complexity and to develop
the ability to present ideas in written reports.
• Management Support Systems - enables students to understand the
application of computer-based information systems used in business
for the support of management (Management Information Systems,
Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems, Executive Information
Systems, Neural Network Systems, etc). Students are exposed to the
methods and techniques used to analyse and design computer-based
management support systems.
• Object-Oriented Analysis and Design - provides students with an
appreciation of the object-oriented concepts as an aid to
understanding a problem domain and representing a system’s
requirements. This module places emphasis on modelling and the
development and use of reusable components.
• Software Engineering Methods - aims to broaden the student’s
knowledge of methods, techniques and tools used in the software
engineering process and to give the student an opportunity to
critically evaluate software engineering methods and techniques.
• Software Engineering Management - aims to broaden the student’s
knowledge of techniques and tools used in the software management
process and to enhance the student’s understanding of software
maintenance and the techniques and tools used. The module gives the
student an opportunity to critically evaluate software products.
Assessment
Assessment for each 15-credit module includes a mid-semester
coursework assignment and an end-of-semester examination.The 30-
credit project is assessed by written reports and progress.
Award Conditions
A BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Information Systems will be
awarded when a student has successfully passed all modules. The
degree will be classified into one of four honours categories (first,
upper second, lower second and third) based on the average mark
awarded across all modules.
 DEGREE

A module is passed when an overall module mark of 40% or more

is attained. Where a student needs to resit an assessment he/she
must do so within a twelve month period.
Duration
Normally one year full-time or two years part-time.
Delivery Method
The programme is delivered online via the NCC Education
Campus.
Association Status
The BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Information Systems is
a final year top-up programme validated and awarded by the
University of Wales. The first and second year of the degree
journey are awarded by NCC Education.

Progression
Graduates will be prepared for further study at postgraduate level.
Graduates are eligible to apply for the PgD In Strategic Business IT
(PgD SBIT) awarded by NCC Education. Upon successful
completion of the PgD SBIT, students can apply to progress onto
various MSc programmes including Strategic Business Information
Systems at the University of Hertfordshire. Alternatively, graduates
of the programme can expect to obtain a management level
position in the IT industry.
