The early birds got the Indian Tacos as the First
Lutheran Church Preschool presented an Indian
Taco Feed beginning at 5:00 Tuesday evening (drive-
thru only). To say it was a smashing success is an
understatement. Held at the Valley Event Center,
vehicles were lined up all the way to MonDak Marine!
These photos were taken at 5:27 and 5:33 p.m. At
5:34 p.m. we were told that out of the 250 Indian
Tacos they were hoping to sell, they only had enough
fixin’s to build 26 more! Less than five minutes later,
they were sold out and, unfortunately, had to turn
everyone else away. We don’t know who was the

It was crazy
last customer to get in on the Indian Taco Feed, but
Larry Sain (that’s his Chevy pickup in line at right)
was in this morning and commented, “They were
really good!” Jennifer Fewer was one of those who
missed out (her car was inching along across from
JR’s Party Store in above photo), but she was thrilled
that the fund-raiser was so successful and gave a
donation anyway, noting that community support
for events such as this is outstanding. Donations
were provided by Reynolds, Albertsons and Thrivent
Financial. 100% of the proceeds went to the First
Lutheran Church’s Preschool Scholarship Fund.

Colorado Idiots
If Colorado has its way with it, the
price of a good beef steak or a chicken
bosom or a pound of bacon is about to
skyrocket even higher than it is now. Let me
tell you why and this story isn’t for the faint-of-heart.
There’s a ballot initiative in Colorado known as “Protect
Animals from Unnecessary Suffering and Exploitation” or
the cutsey acronym is PAUSE. How sweet! Alexander Sage
of Broomfield and Brent Johannes of Boulder, both cities
are Democrat strongholds, have submitted this initiative
to ensure that domesticated animals will be “treated with
dignity” in the future.
One of their demands is that no animal will be
slaughtered until it has reached at least 25% of its natural
lifespan which is 15 to 20 years for beef cattle, 15 years for
hogs, 8 years for chickens and....well you can see the dilemma
here can’t you? Beef cattle are slaughtered at between 18
months and 24 months and weighing 1400 pounds. Of
course those are for the best cuts of meat. Bulls, old crippled
cows make very good hamburger.
The most disturbing demand these two clowns have is
that they want changes made to the “sexual acts with animals”
clause which has loopholes that allow sexual deviants caught
doing “things” or “having their way” with animals to have a
“walk.” (Go free)
Sexual deviation with an animal can be just in the eye of
the beholder as you’ll see when the following story is finished.
Back in the day our neighbor and good friend Homer
had been a married man to the same woman for nearly 50
years when the incident happened that caused his deevorce
from his bride Maudette.
See, the family milk cow died. So being the good
husband that he was Homer bought a new milk cow at the
sale and brought it home as a present for Maudie who’se job it
had always been to milk the cows, naturally.
That evening M. trudged out to the barn to milk but in
about 20 minutes she stormed back into the house, tossed the

empty milk pail at Homer and cried, “If you want that crazy
old, kicking,” expletive deleted, “cow you’ll just have to milk
her your-own-self!!”
So Homer grabbed the bucket, checked it for bullet
holes and set out for the barn. He soon found out just what
his lovely wife was hollerin’ about when as soon as he plopped
the stool down and sat the cow kicked him, knocking him
down. Homer, being a kind and gentle man simply grabbed
a piece of binder twine and throwing a half-hitch around the
cows left rear hoof and tied the other end to an upright. As
soon as he repositioned the stool and bucket the cow kicked
him with her other foot spilling the few drops of milk Homer
has managed to squeeze outta her. He found another length
of twine and hobbled the other hoof to the upright on the
other side. He had her now he thought.
Before I go I have to tell you a little bit about Homer. He
enjoys Maudies cooking and has trouble keeping his britches
up. He displays his “plumber’s crack” proudly and spends a
good lot of his time hitching up his pants. He wears neither
belt nor suspenders.
After bringing his pants back from half mast he sat
down again feeling safe and secure but it was spring, the grass
was green and the cows were “loose” to say the least. Some
of that looseness had landed on the cows tail and she was
continually swatting at imaginary flies but missing flies and
hitting Homer up along side his head.
Unperturberated, Homer grabbed twine again, half-
hitched the cows tail, sat the milking stool behind her,
hitched up his britches and climbed onto the stool to tie the
twine and cow’s tail to the rafter. A couple or more bad things
can happen to a fat man with loose, beltless, suspenderless
britches when he reaches way, waaay wayyy up.
Two of those bad things happened simultaneously: his
britches fell down just as Maudie walked through the barn
door. The last words Homer ever heard from his, now ex-wife
were “I thought you came out here to MILK that cow.” See
what I meant about seeing is in the eye of the beholder?
The initiative proposed by those two Colorado city boys
could cause a lot of innocent people to be misjudged. Don’t
let it happen to you. Wear a belt or suspenders just as Homer
has learned to do!

MSU Extension offers Alzheimer’s awareness storybooks
Montana State University Extension is offering
an Alzheimer’s disease awareness program for
children that provides a storybook and a reading
guide for parents or guardians, teens, aunts, uncles
or grandparents who want to help young children
understand the disease.
These books are available at the MSU Valley
Extension Office located in the Valley County
Courthouse.
According to Jennifer Munter, grant manager
for the MSU Extension Rural Prescription Opioid
Misuse Education and Awareness program, the
guides contain questions to encourage conversations
about the storybook and activities for children. They
also offer information on the common emotions
children may feel regarding Alzheimer’s.
“The goal of these guides is to help the reader
fully engage themselves with the child while at
the same time following with the concepts of the
book,” Munter said. “By doing so, the reader and
the child may gain a better understanding of the
feelings children encounter and the perceptions
they may have about the behaviors a person with
Alzheimer’s disease may show. When children can
gain knowledge about the disease and ask questions,
they may have an easier time adapting to the changes
they see and experience.”
Munter and Marsha Goetting, MSU Extension
family economics specialist, collaborated on
this project. Both of them have had experiences
with dementia-related diseases that took away

to Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of
dementia, and Munter’s father-in-law lived with
Parkinson’s disease.
Munter is a recent graduate in community
health from MSU’s College of Education, Health
and Human Development. She volunteered to
develop the reading guides during her senior year
at MSU. Prior to returning to college, she had a 15-
year career as an early childhood educator.
“Jennifer had over a decade of experience
working with children and their families, so her
ideas for questions and activities to enhance the
storybook’s lessons were invaluable,” Goetting said.
Individuals who know someone with Alzheimer’s
and have a young child who would benefit from
gaining an understanding of unusual behaviors their
loved one may have can receive one free storybook.

A grant from the Montana Geriatric Education
Center at the University of Montana provided
funding to purchase the storybooks. Additional
support came from the Alzheimer’s Association

Watercraft Inspection Stations Open in Montana

Montana’s first watercraft
inspection stations are opening for
the 2021 season. Inspection stations
near Dillon and Ravalli opened
earlier this month. The Anaconda
station opened Saturday, March
20, and intercepted the first mussel
fouled boat of the year. A used
motorboat that had been recently
purchased in Wisconsin was found
with zebra mussels attached to the
anchor. The Anaconda inspectors
reported the mussels were dry and
dead. The motorboat was en route
to Sandpoint, Idaho.
Watercraft inspection
stations are Montana’s first line of
defense to prevent the movement
of aquatic invasive species (AIS)
which can have devastating impacts
on Montana waterways.
Boat owners should ensure
their watercraft, trailers and gear
are clean, drained and dry before
transporting and need to be aware
of Montana’s inspection rules:
All watercraft coming into
Montana from out of state must
be inspected prior to launching.
All watercraft traveling west across
the Continental Divide into the
Columbia River Basin must be
inspected prior to launching.
All watercraft launching
anywhere within the Flathead Basin
that were last launched on waters
outside of the Flathead Basin must
be inspected.
Anyone transporting watercraft
must stop at all open watercraft
inspection stations they encounter.
Snowbirds returning to Montana
with a watercraft must seek out
an inspection. Watercraft that
have been used in mussel-infested
waters in other states are of major
concern. Boat owners coming to
Montana must have their vessel
inspected at a Montana watercraft
inspection station prior to launch.
To accommodate these rules,
inspection stations are set up
across Montana during the boating
season. Additional inspection
stations will open in April and
May as the weather warms and
boat traffic increases. Montana will
accept inspections conducted in
Idaho and Wyoming, too.
Watercraft can also be
inspected at some FWP offices.
