11.1 General
The compliance of a product duct with the requirements of this European Standard and with the stated values
(including classes) shall be demonstrated by:
15
Сигнальный экземпляр
EN 14989-2:2007 (E)
Initial type testing shall be performed to show conformity with this European Standard. Tests previously
performed in accordance with the provisions of this European Standard (same product, same characteristic(s),
test method, sampling procedure, system of attestation of conformity etc.) may be taken into account. In
addition, initial type testing shall be performed at the beginning of the production of a new product or at the
beginning of a new method of production (where this may affect the stated properties).
Where characteristics are determined on the basis of conformity with other product standards (for insulation
material, metals including coatings, seals and sealants), these characteristics do not need to be reassessed
provided that the designer ensures the validity of the results. Products CE marked in accordance with
appropriate harmonised European specifications may be presumed to have the performances stated of them,
although this does not replace the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that the product as a whole is
correctly designed and its component products have the necessary performance values.
All characteristics defined in Clauses 5, 6 and 7 shall be subject to initial type testing, with the following
exception:
release of dangerous substances which may be assessed indirectly by controlling the content of the
substance concerned.
Whenever a change occurs in the product design, the raw material or supplier of the components, or the
production process, which would change the tolerances or requirements of Clauses 6 and 7 for one or more of
the characteristics, the type tests shall be repeated for the appropriate characteristic(s).
The number of products to be tested for any one size shall be in accordance with the requirements of Annex D.
The results of all type tests shall be recorded and held by the manufacturer, until superseded.
11.3.1 General
NOTE A FPC system conforming to the relevant part(s) of EN ISO 9001:2000, for the following requirements and
made specific to the products of this European Standard, is considered to satisfy the requirements.
The manufacturer shall establish, document and maintain a FPC system to ensure that the manufactured
products conform to the stated performance characteristics of the type test sample. The FPC system shall
consist of procedures, regular inspections and tests and/or assessments and the use of the results e.g. to
control raw and other incoming materials or components, equipment, the production process and the
product.
The manufacturer is responsible for organising the effective implementation of the factory production
control system. Tasks and responsibilities in the production control organisation should be documented
16
Сигнальный экземпляр EN 14989-2:2007 (E)
and this documentation should be kept up to-date. In each factory the manufacturer may delegate the
action to a person having the necessary authority to:
identify and record any instance of non-conformity;(c) identify procedures to correct instances of non
conformity.
The manufacturer shall draw up and keep up-to-date documents defining the factory production control
which he applies. The manufacturer's documentation and procedures shall be appropriate to the product
and manufacturing process. All FPC systems shall achieve an appropriate level of confidence in the
conformity of the product. This involves:
the preparation of documented procedures and instructions relating to factory production control,
operations, in accordance with the requirements of the reference technical specification;
the use of these results to correct any deviations, repair the effects of such deviations, treat any
resulting instances of non-conformity and, if necessary, revise the FPC to rectify the cause of non-
conformity.
The production control operations shall include some or all of the following operations:
the controls and tests to be carried out during manufacture according to a frequency laid down;
the verifications and tests to be carried out on finished products according to a frequency which may
be laid down in the technical specifications and adapted to the product and its conditions of
manufacture.
NOTE Depending on the specific case, it may be necessary to carry out i) the operations referred to under b) and c),
ii) only the operations under b) or iii) only those under c). The operations under b) centre as much on the intermediate
states of the product as on manufacturing machines and their adjustment, and equipment etc. These controls and tests
and their frequency are chosen based on product type and composition, the manufacturing process and its complexity, the
sensitivity of product features to variations in manufacturing parameters etc.
The manufacturer shall have or have available the installations, equipment and personnel which enable him to
carry out the necessary verifications and tests. He may, as may his agent, meet this requirement by
concluding a sub-contracting agreement with one or more organisations or persons having the necessary
skills and equipment.
The manufacturer has responsibility to calibrate or verify and maintain the control, measuring or test
equipment in good operating condition, whether or not it belongs to him, with a view to demonstrating
conformity of the product with its technical specification. The equipment shall be used in conformity with the
specification or the test reference system to which the specification refers.
If necessary, monitoring shall be carried out of the conformity of intermediate states of the product and at the
main stages of its production.
This monitoring of conformity focuses where necessary on the product throughout the process of manufacture,
so that only products having passed the scheduled intermediate controls and tests are dispatched.
The results of inspections, tests or assessments requiring action shall be recorded, as any action taken. The
action to be taken when control values or criteria are not met shall be recorded.
17
Сигнальный экземпляр
EN 14989-2:2007 (E)
11.3.2 Equipment
All weighing, measuring and testing equipment shall be calibrated and regularly inspected according to
documented procedures, frequencies and criteria.
The specifications of all incoming raw materials and components shall be documented, as the inspection
scheme for ensuring their conformity.
The manufacturer shall establish procedures to ensure that the stated values of the characteristics are
maintained. An example of sampling for FPC is given in Annex D. The characteristics of the components to be
included are given in Annex E.
12 Test methods
Assemble the components according to the manufacturer's installation instructions between two adaptors
including one straight section (see Figure 1 a)). The adapters shall be supplied by the air/flue configuration
manufacturer and shall transfer the test load in the usual way to the load bearing wall of the test components
as it is done in the installation. The test load shall be transferred to the test components by means of a pivoted
plate.
For concentric air/flue configurations where the air supply duct is load bearing increase the load up to three
times the manufacturer’s design load.
For concentric air/flue configurations where the flue duct is load bearing increase the load up to four times the
manufacturer’s design load.
For separate configurations the air supply duct increases the load up to three times the manufacturer’s design
load.
The load shall be measured to an accuracy of 2 % of the design load. The result shall be recorded.
Where the design load is unknown, increase the test load uniformly and record the results to allow the point of
failure to be detected. Failure is deemed to have occurred when the components cannot sustain a further
increase in load.
18
Сигнальный экземпляр EN 14989-2:2007 (E)

Where a manufacturer’s product range includes bends, the test air/flue configuration shall include one offset
(see Figure 5 b)), with an offset angle of maximum 45° and an offset distance of 0,75 m ± 0,25 m.
Construct a purpose-made insulated straight flue pipe having an internal diameter equal to that of the flue of
the test air/flue configuration of a length of approximately seven diameters (7D) measured from the outlet of
the flue gas generator to the entry to the test air/flue configuration, insulated to provide a thermal resistance
value of not less than that equivalent to 50 mm thickness of material having a thermal conductivity of
0,125 W/m K ± 0,005 W/m K at 750 °C.
Measure ambient air temperature with an accuracy of ± 1,5 °C, in Zone A at a position 300 mm ± 5 mm below
the ceiling and in all other zones at a position 300 mm ± 5 mm above the floor; when testing a non-enclosed
air/flue configuration, place additional ambient measuring points at levels corresponding to the outer surface
temperature measurements.
The method for measuring ambient temperature is to shield a calibrated thermocouple by placing it centrally
within a length of aluminium painted metal tube, 150 mm ± 2 mm long and 50 mm nominal diameter, open at
each end. At each measurement level, two tubes shall be located 600 mm ± 5 mm away from the test air/flue
configuration surface on diametrically opposite sides of the test assembly. The shielded thermocouple shall be
placed vertically to avoid direct radiation onto the thermocouple.
Measure the hot gas temperature with an accuracy of ± 3 °C for hot gas temperatures less than or equal to
600 °C and ± 0,75 % for hot gas temperatures greater than 600 °C at a position 50 mm ± 2 mm before the
inlet to the test air/flue configuration and at a point in the cross section coincident with the highest temperature
position.
The method for hot gas temperature measurements is to use a calibrated thermocouple. Its position is
determined by a temperature traverse undertaken during the first thermal cycle as follows:
Set the hot gas thermocouple in the centre of the flue pipe through one of two apertures provided at right
angles to each other at a level 50 mm ± 2 mm from the entry to the test air/flue configuration.
Fire the hot gas generator at the volume flow specified in Table 6 and adjust to produce the specified hot gas
test temperature.
After firing for no less than 10 min, take ten equally spaced temperature measurements along two traverses at
right angles across the flue pipe cross section, but not closer than 12 mm to the flue wall.
Determine the location of the highest temperature of these two traverses and position the thermocouple there
for the test.
Re-adjust the hot gas generator to obtain the specified hot gas temperature.

Measure the surface temperature of the adjacent wood/combustible parts of the test structure with an
accuracy of ± 1,5 °C.
The method for combustible wood surface temperature measurements is to use thermocouples made from
wire not more than 0,56 mm in diameter. The thermocouples shall have 13 mm ± 2 mm of wire exposed and
passed through holes in those parts of the structure to receive them. The exposed portions of the
thermocouples shall be bent over, depressed flush with the surface and held in contact with the surface by
staples passing over the wires close to the thermocouple junction.
Establish the maximum temperature of the surfaces of the test structure and the test air/flue configuration
during the thermal cycle appropriate to the designation.

The rainmaking installation is made up of parallel pipes in a horizontal plane. The tubes have small spray
holes (placed vertically downwards).
These spray holes are evenly distributed across the area above the wire mesh. The water from the spray
holes shall be distributed through a web of fine (1,3 ± 0,1) mm wide wire mesh, after which the water
will fall in the form of raindrops. A typical arrangement is shown in Figure 8.
Key
1 wind generator

The rain intensity is (1,6 ± 0,2) mm/min and shall be measured. During calibration an area in front of the wind
generator is found where with wind the rain intensity is (1,6 ± 0,2) mm/min. The largest area of the top of the
flue and air supply duct shall not be more than 20 % of the area found by calibration.
The wind generator supplies a horizontal airflow at a velocity of (12 ± 0,5) m/s at the position of the product
under test. The outlet of the wind generator shall be square or circular.

12.3.3.1.2 Procedure
Before commencing the rain ingress tests, the test assembly has to be calibrated. For calibration 5 buckets of
a diameter of 150 mm, one on each corner of a rectangular area and one in the middle, will be positioned at a
level corresponding to the level of the centre between the flue gas outlet and the air inlet.
Make sure that the largest area of the top of the flue and air supply duct is less than 20 % of the area within
the line circumscribing the buckets. Start the calibration test during 10 min with wind and determine if the rain
intensity is (1,6 ± 0,1) mm/min by weighting the 5 buckets.
Seal the outlet from the duct. With the duct under the rain system and in front of the wind generator in
accordance to Figure 8 and in such a way that the centres of the joint are in line with the centre of the wind
generator outlet opening, operate the wind and rain system. Measure and record the quantity of water from
the duct and for insulated ducts the increase in mass. The requirements of 7.5.3 shall be met.
12.3.3.2.1 Conditioning
Condition for at least 48 h in the test environment of 12.3.1.2, those chimney sections which have been
subjected to the thermal performance test of 12.3.1 (located in Zone C, including any inspection opening).
There shall be at least one joint between the sections, and they shall be removed in their assembled state so
that any joint between the sections shall have been left undisturbed following the thermal performance test.
The test structure shall consist of a rotating free draining plinth. The spray tube shall be perforated to direct
jets of water towards the centre of the circle. Install the sections onto the centre of the plinth of the test
structure so that the centre of the spray arc is approximately at the centre of the flue below or level with the
joint (see Figure 9).
Seal the joint where the sections stand on the plinth and cover the top to prevent ingress of water into open
end of section.
The spray tube shall be constructed and dimensioned to allow the flow conditions of EN 60529 to be achieved
and maintained.

while oscillating the spray arc through an angle of 120° ± 5° (60° either side of the vertical) and rotating the
plinth. The time for one complete traverse (two traverses of 120°) shall be 6 s ± 1 s and the time for one
revolution of the plinth shall be 5 min ± 1 min. Remove any surface moisture from the surfaces of the chimney
sections.
The sections may be separated to facilitate removal of surface moisture. Reweigh the test sections.
12.3.3.2.4 Results
Record the increase in weight of the test sections. The requirements of 7.5.3 shall be met.
The air velocity in the components tested shall be set in such a way that the air flow rate equals the nominal
flow rate, depending on the actual inside diameter of the fittings.
The nominal flow rate is a function of the nominal diameter and the nominal velocity, where

4 fitting to test
A fitting is connected on both sides to a measuring duct through which test air is supplied and discharged.
These measuring ducts shall have a straight length of at least 2 000 mm and, except for testing adaptors, the
same diameter.
Pressure measuring points (key 3 of Figure 10) are placed in the measuring ducts. For this purpose, at least 3
openings with a 1 mm diameter are distributed evenly around the circumference of each duct, opposite to
each other in a plane perpendicular to the centre line of the duct. These openings shall be free of burrs on the
inside of the duct. The average static pressure in the duct is measured via these openings.
The length of the measuring ducts, the position of the pressure measuring points in the measuring ducts and
the position of the pressure measuring points relative to the connected fitting to be tested and the position of
the pressure measuring points relative to the other supply and flue ducts to which the measuring ducts are
connected shall be such as to permit an undisturbed flow at all times, over a distance of 7 Dn on before the
pressure measuring point and 3 Dn after the measuring point.
For measuring the flow resistance of the air supply duct of a concentric air/flue configuration a section of pipe
of the same outside diameter as the central flue pipe shall be connected to both sides of the central flue pipe
of the fitting under test and extended for the complete length of the measuring duct and sealed at the end
farthest away from the fitting under test.
NOTE Sealing of the central pipe is to prevent air entering the flue pipe of the fitting under test.
It is important that the connection between the outlet and the fan and seal end of the central pipe in the
measuring duct ensures that the airflow entering the measuring duct has a homogenous velocity profile.

These measuring ducts of varying diameter, reducing or enlarging, are made of stainless steel with the
smoothest possible finish and have a transition angle α = 10° (2 × 5°).
The air transport through the ducts is set to an accuracy of ± 2,5 %. The pressure differential is measured to
an accuracy of ± 0,2 Pa.
All tests shall be carried out with air at a temperature of the test environment.
The coefficient of flow resistance of a fitting is determined from the difference between the static pressures in
the two measuring ducts.
Testing takes place at a nominal flow rate equivalent to a nominal velocity of 6 m/s in the fitting to be tested.
First determine the friction of the measuring duct between the pressure measuring points without the pipe
section or fitting to be tested. There are two possible situations:
there are two measuring ducts of different diameter because a reducing or enlarging adapter should be
tested.
In the latter case, a reducing or enlarging measuring duct (see 12.3.4.2) should be placed between the two
measuring ducts referred to above.
Mount the section or fitting to be tested in the rig (after removing the reducing or enlarging measuring duct if
fitted). Determine the friction of the measuring ducts between the pressure measuring points again. The
friction of the section or fitting is then given by the difference between the two test results.
NOTE The friction of the reducing or enlarging measuring ducts is thus ignored.
The friction value may be calculated from the friction measured according to 12.3.4.3 by means of the
following equation:

Preferred dimensions
A.1 General
The push-in spigots of the flue/air supply duct shall be capable of being pushed into the socket of the gas
appliance. However, sockets of gas appliances are not standardised. In order to simplify the choice of the
dimensions of the socket for the manufacturer of the gas appliance, a table with preferred dimensions for the
push-in spigot of the flue/air supply ducts have been included in this annex.
Where the air/flue configuration fulfills the requirements of this European Standard, but not the preferred
dimensions, the manufacturer of the air/flue configuration shall be able to deliver an adapter with the preferred
dimensions.

Sampling plans shall be selected from the tables published in ISO 2859-1.
The AQL shall be decided in relation to the nature of the inspection feature being controlled. For defects
classed as MAJOR, the sampling plan shall be based on an AQL of 4,0.
NOTE Classification of defects should be the responsibility of the person responsible for the manufacturing process.
Normal inspection shall be used initially, after which, the following rules apply:
a) when ten successive batches have been accepted on original there can be a switch to reduced inspection.
This shall remain in operation until one batch is rejected, at which point revert back to normal inspection;
b) when two out of any five successive batches have been rejected on original inspection, there can be a
switch to tightened inspection. This shall remain in operation until five successive batches have been
accepted, at which point revert back to normal inspection.
Unless otherwise specified, all incoming material shall be subjected to single sampling plans.
Once the first four variables have been decided, the sampling plan tables shall indicate the amount of samples
to be inspected for any given batch quantity.
All information regarding levels of inspection shall be indicated where appropriate on the inspection records.
The inspection level defines the relationship between the batch size and the sample size, all incoming goods
shall be subjected to the following inspection levels, for batch sizes from 2 – 90: inspection level II and for
batch sizes greater than 91: inspection level S2.
The selected inspection level can incorporate the switching rules to tightened or reduced inspection if
necessary. All mill certification shall be checked against the relevant technical specification.

An inspection feature shall be introduced each time the material changes form during the process.
A first inspection shall be implemented and verified by either the setter or supervisor at each machine
operation and from then on the operators will carry out each required dimensional check at a rate of four per
batch - unrecorded, using go-no go gauges.
For non automated productions, this is supplemented by a beginning and end of shift full dimensional check
by the line supervisor using measuring equipment. This is a record check, a register of all results being
maintained.
b) Un-insulated product:
If the operator can influence the density / regularity of the insulation (for instance manual filling, cutting of the
shell without e.g. patterns) 100 % inspection; each insulated product shall be weighed after filling to ensure
correct in-pipe density has been achieved. Four results per batch shall be recorded.
Over each 12 months period, volume and density checks shall be conducted on all insulated products of all
length and diameter sizes. This shall be carried out to a formalised programme to ensure that a quantity of
product is tested each month.
At the end of the manufacturing process, prior to packaging, each unit shall be visually inspected.
