Method Statement

Planiseal 288
Polymer Modified cementitious waterproofing coating

1. General

Planiseal 288 is a two part polymer modified cementitious waterproof mortar slurry. Applicable to
concrete and mortar to prevent water intrusion.

2. Areas of Application

Planiseal 288 is used to waterproof areas as indicated below:-

 Wet area
 Male & Female Changing RM
 Disable toilet
 Janitor
 Bath 1 & 2 (Duplex)
 Powder RM (Duplex)
 Bath 1 & 2 (Type A,B,C & C1)
 Bath 3 (Type C & C1)

3. Application Method

Surface Preparation

Important Note: Attention to appropriate preparation of the substrate is essential for complete
adhesion and bonding.
1. Surface to be treated must be sound and clean. (By main con)
2. Remove spalled and deeply disintegrated concrete to sound concrete and repair it with
repair mortar system. (By main con)
3. Patch all voids and honeycombs with a non-shrinking and fast-setting grout. Allow the
patched area to cure for at least 3 days, if any (By main con)
4. Clean the substrate surface thoroughly and make sure that it is sound and free from
contamination such as oil, grease, loose mortar particles, paint films, protective coatings,
all traces of mould release agents and curing compounds, efflorescence, laitance, etc.
(By main con)
5. In the event of the presence of water which continuously seeps through due to
honeycomb or disintegrated concrete, seal off the flow using fast setting patching
thixotropic paste. (By main con)
6. Pre-soak the substrate surface with clean water to achieve surface saturated dry (SSD)
and keep the surface damp during the application process.

Treatment to Corners, Pipe Sleeves and Openings

1. Construct triangular angle fillet at all right angles corner. Allow the triangular fillet to cure
before applying Planiseal 288 waterproofing coating.
2. Seal all circumferences of the pipe sleeves and openings extending 50 mm both side and
allow it to cure before overcoat with general application.

Method Statement

Application

1. Mix Part B (powder) to Part A (liquid) and stirring with a low speed mixer depending on
the required amount needed. Mix for approximately 3 minutes prior application.
2. Pre-wet the surface of substrate to receive Planiseal 288 with water to ensure that the
surface is damp (saturated) but without excess water.
3. Apply Planiseal 288 shall be with hard bristled brush brushes evenly onto the concrete
surfaces in separate coats after the surfaces have been prepared to receive the
waterproofing.

Internal Wet Areas (2-coat system)

4. Apply the first coat of Planiseal 288 at the rate of 1.0kg/m2 on the slab and over the
skirting wall.
5. Rubbing the slurry well into the slab, extension 250mm into family / bedroom floor and
skirting all round. Allow to dry for 4 hours and above.
4. Apply the second coat at the similar rate but in cross wise direction to the first coat.
Allow the final coat to dry.
6. Allow the entire waterproofing system to cure prior to subsequent trade of work or
finishes.
7. Allow the final coat to cure prior to subsequent trade of works. Protect the waterproofing
coating with protective layer within 4 days upon completion of ponding test.
(by subsequent trade contractors)

4. Testing (for Internal floor)

1. Allow the final coat to cure for at least 4 hours before ponding test.
2. Seal all pipe sleeves with a temporary covering and fill up water until it reaches about
25mm below the outlet pipe.
3. Allow the water to be contained for 24 hours.
4. Visual inspection is done underneath the slab and outside walls to ensure no leaking
occurs.
5. Please note checking on water level in ponding test is inappropriate, as the determination
on water level is subjective and cannot be concluded as water tightness test.

5. Screeding
6.
1. After the ponding testing passed, protective screed has to be done accordingly by
screeder (within 4 days)

6. Protection

Method Statement

1. Protect the freshly applied waterproof membrane from rain, dirt, grease or other loose
materials during its drying time.
2. The Contractor should also take precautions to protect the Planiseal 288 coating from
any mechanical damage during the construction of other trade of works.
