Week 6 : uinal Project
1/22 ± 1/26

Read: no new reading

Assignment: There is no new reading for this week, the final week of class. Your
assignment for the week is to write a paper, approximately 5 pages in length (double-
spaced), about a current event taking place with respect to a global business activity or
global law. The paper is due on January 26, 11:59 pm. The paper will identify the topic,
describe why it is currently in the news, analyze the issue with respect to subject matter
learned in this course, and conclude with a personal opinion about the topic. uor
example, a topic might be British Petroleum¶s handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico, or the recent activity concerning valuation of the Chinese yuan, an analysis of
the currency crisis in Greece, or some other topic of your interest. The professor will
hand out a list of other possible topics during the fourth week of class, after you have
been exposed to fundamentals of international law and business strategies.

Alternatively, you may want to write about a relevant event that is occurring in the
company where you work. If your employer is involved in a global project that would be
of interest to the class, you can write a paper about the international aspects of the
project. If you wish to keep your company¶s name confidential, it is perfectly fine to use
pseudonyms to identify companies, people, etc.

If you do not find a topic of interest, you can, as an alternative, write a final paper (also 5
pages in length, double-spaced), discussing the Integrative Case 9 in Peng, Ocean Park
Confronts Hong Kong Disneyland. You can write about any aspect of the case that
interests you, and as a starting point, use the questions posited at the end of the case on
page 498 in Peng. The fundamental question to the case is, ³What advice would you give
to the Ocean Park management team about how to continue its battle against
Disneyland?´
