5-PS1-4. Conduct an investigation to determine whether
the mixing of two or more substances results in new
substances.
Clarification Statement: Determination of the new substance is
based on the properties of the resulting substance, which could
include quantitative (e.g. weight) and qualitative properties (e.g.
state of matter, color, texture, and odor).
State Assessment Boundary: Assessment does not include
identification of the new substance.
Crosscutting Cause and effect relationships are routinely identified, tested, and used
