PLANETS AT THE DEGREE OF NODES

 Judy Collins
When you look for karmic lessons in the chart, one of the most significant aspect is a planet
at the degree of the Nodes of the Moon. Those planetary positions will be one indicator of
what the soul had in mind for this lifetime. It is not an easy or an uneventful life if an
individual has these placements. There is a definite purpose for the soul to choose this body
and this time of birth. Also, if the Ascendant or MidHeaven is at the degree of the nodes,
this too is important, because it relates to how the individual will project out into the world.
The planet, Ascendant or MidHeaven must be within the one-degree orb aspect of the
Node.

The first thing to consider is when the Ascendant is at the degree of the Node. This person
has come into this life with a special mission that is based on at least one and probably
several lifetimes. The houses where the Nodes fall in the chart points to the areas the
person is to address with a concentrated effort.

If the Nodes are Angular, the actions taken by the individual will affect them personally,
the home, marriage and career. Often there is a definite crossroad in life that will demand
the person to make hard choices, which will be at great personal cost and struggle.

When the Nodes are in the Succedent houses, it usually will affect the money, self-esteem,
love relationships and issues dealing with desires that maybe hard to obtain.

Nodes in the Cadent houses are generally about communication skills, health issues and
work ethics, beliefs, anxieties and fears.

If the MidHeaven is at the degree of the Nodes, career choices are very important. When a
person feels satisfied in their career, they seem to flourish in all areas of life. When they do
not, life seems to be out of control in many ways. Again, depending on where the Nodes
are in the chart determines how the individual’s Ascendant or MidHeaven will function.

When investigating those life lessons brought over from previous lives, look at the
separating aspects of the planets to the Nodes. If the Nodes are also receiving an applying
aspect, this shows that the individual is working in this life on those issues with a new
direction. The closer the orbs are, the more important this lesson is for the person. Keep the
orb at less than one degree. Determine the life lessons by the planet, where it is by house
and the aspects to the Nodes.

The personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) at the degree of the Nodes
usually deal with relationship problems. It can present a crisis where people and events
cause the individual to experience upsets in life around the areas of marriage, children and
everyday life.

The Arizona Astrologer February, 2002

If the Moon, which is the planet of accumulated life times, is at the degree of the Nodes of
the Moon, the emotional habit patterns of life need to be addressed. How does the
individual seem to handle the everyday life crises? Do they over react or hide in a shell?
What role do security issues play in their lives? Is their life a continuing tradition of a
family pattern? How does the person show a nurturing spirit? These questions can be best
answered by looking to the house with the sign of Cancer.

If the Sun is at the degree of the Nodes, the person may have the feeling of having to fight
for any identity. Their true spirit seems to always be tested in life. The house where the Sun
is and the separating aspects can point to the areas of concern. The Sun’s applying aspects
along with the house of Leo, can give the person a place to grow in this lifetime.

Mercury at the degree of the Nodes l imits the ability for the person to think and reason as
they would want. There may actually be a problem in the area of memory, breathing or
speech. The houses of Gemini and Virgo will show the areas of stress. If the person feels
pushed into making decisions, then any of those problems may develop. How a person
thinks, speaks and breathes can take a toll in their lives. All Mercury health issues stem
from negative habitual patterns because of the signs Gemini and Virgo.

Venus at the degree of the Nodes limits how a person can give and receive love. In addition
to these feelings, a person may have problems with money. The houses of Taurus and Libra
will show areas that the person feels incomplete in some way. It has a lot to do with self-
esteem issues in their life. The person may feel unworthy of love or seeks out relationships
that ultimately harm them.

When Mars is at the degree of the Nodes, the person’s direction in life is usually on a
negative course. They seem to take two steps backward for one step forward in their
growth. The House of Aries and sometimes Scorpio will show where the person needs to
concentrate on improving their projection into the world. Separating aspects show from
previous lives the areas where this action is coming from. Hopefully, with the applying
aspects the person can start to take positive forward steps to a happy life. They need to plan
out their actions, review the consequences of them and develop a new way of putting effort
into their world.

The outer planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto address the evolution of the
soul. These planets point to the growth of the soul through some hard experiences in life. It
may be coming from the early years or happenings that changed their life forever.

Jupiter at the degree of the Nodes can make the person’s judgment and belief system a
source of problems in life. The house of Sagittarius and Jupiter’s separating aspects point to
the areas of concern. All applying aspects from Jupiter will give the individual
opportunities for a change in judgment and beliefs. If

5

Jupiter rules any of the angles and has both separating and applying aspects, the areas of
personal direction, home, marriage and career issues must be addressed in this lifetime. The
house that Jupiter is in shows the area where the person will be tested on their beliefs both
spiritual and material. Think of Jupiter as the planet of understanding. When Jupiter is at
the degree of the Nodes, what you believe and what you understand about any situation
needs to be perceived as to the truth of the reality.

Saturn at the degree of the Nodes will hold the person responsible for everything that
happens in this lifetime. Because Saturn is known as the planet of karma and has definite
lessons in this life, the individual may feel like the world is on his or her shoulders. There
may be an important lesson relating to father or authority figures in the life. The house of
Capricorn will feel like a heavy burden to the person. Here is where they may feel there is
so much to be responsible. Because Saturn is the planet of timing, when decisions must be
made involving major changes progressions and transits should be carefully studied. Of all
the planets at the degree of the Nodes, here Saturn’s sign is also important along with
where it rules, the house it is in and the separating and applying aspects. Saturn’s sign will
give clues to how the person is to operate in this life. If Saturn is in Capricorn, Aquarius,
Cancer, Leo, Libra or Aries, the lessons are emphasized and separating aspects show past
life karma that needs to be dealt with now.

Uranus at the degree of the Nodes can make a person feel like they are standing on
dynamite that is ready to blow. Life seems so changeable the person can’t feel any
permanency. Where Aquarius is 1 n the chart is probably the only house that feels like
things can be dealt with easily even though this is the very house that needs to be addressed
with stability using the best Saturn aspects possible. Uranus asks that the individuals show
their uniqueness in life and be changeable, but when at the degree of the Nodes, the person
will have a tendency to make those changes without careful thought. A true rebel, always
wanting life to be different is this person. If the person has separating aspects from Uranus
to Saturn, the person may have felt held back in the last life time and wants freedom in this
one. The person shows their ability to be responsible in all forms of relationships
depending on the hard demanding aspects of Uranus such as applying aspects from Saturn.

Neptune at the degree of the Nodes can make a person creative, romantic and spiritual. The
person does have a definite mission in this life, but the problem is getting it pinned down.
The person seems to be running away, dropping out and basically in “LaLa land” most of
the time. What is usually happening in their life is a sense of duty to someone or something
that just takes too much energy from them to dream their dreams. The house of Pisces
shows a karmic responsibility to serve out their duties in this life with no concern for
themselves. When this karma is completed, the person finds himself or herself. Separating
aspects points to the areas where the individual “took” in a past life and the applying
aspects show where the “payment” in this life is due.
