Ажвейпш, Ажвейпшаа, у абхазов божество охоты,
покровитель диких животных. Чаще всего выступает как
глава божественного семейства, в которое входят его
дочери-красавицы и сын Иуана, иногда упоминается слуга
Швакваз. Семейство А. пребывает на земле, как правило,- в
глухом лесу или на вершине неприступной отвесной скалы,
где пасутся принадлежащие А. несметные стада диких
животных. Иногда члены семейства А., чаще всего его
дочери, приняв облик косули (лани, оленя), заманивают
охотника. Согласно одному мифу, А. закалывает в честь
охотника, попавшего в его владения, косулю (тура, оленя),
отваренным мясом угощает гостя. Охотник забывает свой
нож в куске мяса (обычно в лопатке). После пиршества,
собрав все кости и завернув их в шкуру убитого животного,
А. ударяет волшебной палочкой и оживляет косулю, и та
мчится обратно в стадо. На другой день, возвращаясь
домой, охотник встречает в пути косулю, метким
выстрелом убивает её. При свежевании он обнаруживает в
лопатке свой номе и узнаёт косулю, зарезанную А. для него
(у абхазов существует поговорка: «никому не суждено
съесть то, что раньше него не съел бы уже А.»). А. обычно
представляют глуховатым старцем. Дочери А., стремясь
завлечь неженатых молодых охотников, просят отца дать
добычу тому, кому он ещё не давал, но тугой на ухо А.
наделяет добычей одних и тех же бывалых, опытных
охотников. Нередко функции А. выполняет другое
божество - Аерг.

Ажвейпш, или как его еще называют — Ажвейпшаа —
повелитель лесов и гор, зверей и птиц; он покровитель
охоты. У Ажвейпша семья: женатый сын по имени Иуана,
вечно юные дочери-красавицы; есть у него еще верный
слуга — быстроногий Швакваз.
Ажвейпш, хотя и седобородый, но еще крепкий старик. Все
звери составляют его стадо; он пасет его, как хороший

У Ажвейпша есть свои пастухи. Это — белые звери; они
пасут других зверей. Охотники не убивают белых зверей,
потому что знают: за это Ажвейпш их накажет — не даст
больше дичи.
Однажды случилось так, что какой-то охотник нечаянно
застрелил белого козленка, и вдруг откуда-то раздался
плачущий девичий голос: «Мама, мама, моего козленка
убили!» Это был голос дочери Ажвейпша. С тех пор тот
охотник не знал удачи. Сколько бы он ни бродил по горам и
лесам, ему на глаза не попадалось никакой дичи. Так
наказывает Ажвейпш.
Со временем владыка зверей и покровитель охоты одряхлел
и оглох, поэтому с ним стали разговаривать громко. Дичь
между охотниками, по указанию Ажвейпша, распределяет
его слуга Швакваз. Он тоже, как и его господин, постарел и
немного стал туговат на ухо. Ажвейпш справедлив и добр.
Он хочет распределить дичь всем охотникам поровну.
Бывает так, что он скажет: «Давай тем, кому не давал!» А
Шваквазу слышится: «Давай тем, кому давал!» Вот и
получается так, что Швакваз дает дичь не тому, кому
следовало бы. Оттого некоторые охотники всегда
удачливы, а иные ничего не могут добыть.
Единственным человеком, которому удалось видеть
Ажвейпша, был герой-охотник Акун-ипа Хатажуква. А
случилось это так.
Однажды Акун-ипа Хатажуква с товарищами отправился в
а охоту. В пути он отбился от них и забрел в густую чащу
леса. Вдруг на него набежал олень. Охотник выстрелил в
него и попал в бок, но не убил, а только ранил. Олень
скрылся в зарослях. Акун-ипа Хатажуква пошел за ним по
следам. Долго он прослеживал раненого оленя и к вечеру
подошел к поляне, на которой увидел большое стадо
оленей, туров, серн. Красивый седой старик в
конусообразной войлочной шапке доил одну из оленьих.
Старик заметил охотника и окликнул его:
— Добро пожаловать! Зайди ко мне в дом. Я пока не могу

Подоив стадо, Ажвейпш и Швакваз внесли в асура(Асура
— пристройка к дому для хозяйственных надобностей)
большой медный котел с молоком.
— Охотник, ты устал и проголодался,— сказал владыка.—
Садись и поешь.
Ажвейпш подал гостю ахарцвы (Ахарцвы — мацони
(кислое молоко)) Акун-ипа Хатажуква съел три ложки и
почувствовал, что сыт. Затем Ажвейпш выбрал из своего
стада и зарезал того самого оленя, которого подстрелил
охотник. Сварили мясо. Хозяин подал гостю лопатку.
Хатажуква вынул свой нож, отрезал от лопатки три ломтика
мяса и съел, а затем незаметно воткнул свой нож между
мясом и костью лопатки.
После еды Ажвейпш собрал кости оленя и остатки мяса,
сложил их в шкуру и ударил плеткой. В мгновение ока
олень ожил, вскочил и присоединился к стаду.
Акун-ипа переночевал в доме Ажвейпша, а утром, съев три
ложки ахарцвы и насытившись вдоволь, поблагодарил
гостеприимного хозяина и отправился в путь. В лесу он
встретил оленя и убил его. Скоро Акун-ипа Хатажуква
нашел своих товарищей. Они ждали его на охотничьей
полянке. Принесли оленя, освежевали его и сварили мясо.
Каждому досталось по большому куску. Акун-ипа взял себе
лопатку. Стал он обрезать с неё мясо, и вдруг обнаружил
свой нож. Товарищи очень удивились: как попал в тело
оленя нож Акун-ипа? Тогда отважный охотник рассказал о
том, как побывал в гостях у Ажвейпша и как воткнул свой
нож между мясом и костью лопатки оленя.
Вот видите,— сказал в заключение Акун-ипа,— наш
великий золотой князь Ажвейпш посылает нам только тех
животных, которых он зарезал сам, съел с родичами или
гостями, а потом оживил для нас, простых смертных!
ПАСТУХ И ДОЧЬ АЖВЕЙПША
Молодой пастух выстрелил в серну, но не убил, а только

SHEPHERD AND DAUGHTER AZHVEYPSHA

бородатый старик. А это был владыка зверей и птиц,
покровитель охоты Ажвейпш.
— Добро пожаловать! — сказал ему ласково хозяин. Возле
него стояла кадка и лежала ложка.
— Ты, должно быть, проголодался. Отведай простокваши!
Пастух взял ложку и зачерпнул из кадки. Но едва он съел
три
ложки, как почувствовал, что сыт по горло.
Стал пастух оглядываться и увидел в открытые двери, что
на лужайке прыгают и играют три серны. Загляделся на них
юноша, а старик спрашивает:
— На что ты смотришь, что увидел?
— Серны на поляне играют, — ответил пастух.
— Это не серны, это мои дочери, — сказал старик. — Их
одежда лежит вон там, под кустами. Крайнее платье — это
младшей дочери. Старшие уже вышли замуж, а младшая
еще девушка. Пойди туда! Постарайся подкрасться и
незаметно унести её одежду, увидишь, что случится.
Расхрабрился пастух, подкрался к одежде младшей дочери
старика и схватил её. Тут все серны мгновенно
превратились в девушек. Старшие надели свои платья, а
младшая, прикрываясь длинными волосами, застыла на
месте. Тогда старшие сестры закричали:
— Вот наш зять, вот наш зять! — и взяли пастуха под руки.

в котел, а кости и шкуру животных собрал в кучу. Ажвейпш
ударил своим жезлом по останкам, и кости покрылись
мясом, а мясо — шкурой. Звери обрели свой прежний вид.
Только такая дичь, съеденная и воскрешенная Ажвейпшем,
попадается на глаза охотнику, только такую дичь может он
бить. Иных животных охотник даже и не увидит.
Прошло три года. За это время жена пастуха каждый год
рожала по ребенку: первый раз родила девочку и отдала ее
на воспитание русалке, второй раз — мальчика и отдала ее
на воспитание оленю, в третий раз опять родила сына и
отдала его на воспитание косуле.
Захотелось однажды пастуху побывать среди людей, и
сказал он об этом своей жене.
— Проси на это разрешение у отца, — отвечала жена.
Пастух пошел к Ажвейпшу. Выслушал его Ажвейпш и
спросил:
— Знаешь ли ты большую поляну, где люди обычно пасут
стада?
— Знаю, — ответил пастух.
— Ты вернешься домой и будешь жить на той поляне, но
смотри, не оскорби чем-нибудь свою жену, а то плохо тебе
будет!
— Разве я посмею! — воскликнул пастух.
— Хорошо, иди к себе и ляг спать пораньше, а когда
проснешься, попадешь, куда тебе надо, — сказал Ажвейпш.
Пастух и его жена легли рано, а когда проснулись, то
увидели, что очутились во дворце, из окон которого видна
была цветущая поляна.
Жители были поражены, увидев воздвигнутый за одну ночь
дворец, но не решались близко подойти. Взглянув через
окно, жена пастуха сказала мужу:

дверь. Но жена не слышала. Тогда князь пришел в ярость и
стал кричать:
— Открой дверь, дьяволова дочка! Ты сожрала моих детей!
Услышав громкую брань, жена проснулась, открыла дверь,
не сказала ни слова упрека, раздела мужа и уложила спать.
Потом она вызвала дочь, что воспитывалась у русалки,
усадила её около кровати и дала в руки четырехструнный
ачамгур. Затем она вызвала старшего сына, который жил у
оленя, и дала ему двуструнную апхярцу и, наконец, вызвала
младшего сына, который воспитывался у косули, и сказала:
— Вы, мальчики, танцуйте, когда сестра будет играть на
ачамгуре, а потом пусть играет старший на апхярце, а ты,
дочка, танцуй с младшим братом! Оставайтесь возле отца
