JOB SUMMARY: The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing all operational
activities and associated costs of BDB's transportation and distribution network, inventory
control, and warehousing processes while maintaining a focus on cost reduction. This includes
oversight of local, regional and global transportation and distribution operations while,
developing and maintaining systems of stock keeping units for stratification of inventory,
based upon stakeholder input and business requirements. He/she is responsible for leading
strategy driven logistics and inventory initiatives including process re-engineering, fulfilling
GPDS requirements, and managing logistics related activities due to acquisitions and
compliance driven change. He/she ensures alignment with customer regional and global
operations and regulatory requirements. He/She will have direct accountability for ensuring
accuracy and efficiency of order fulfillment, BDB's instrument and reagent raw, work-in-
process and finished materials. He/she is responsible for assuring implementation of corporate
governance requirements including, but not limited to, SOX, ISO, GMP, etc. Management of
regular and temporary distribution and inventory control staff, through various levels of
supervisor(s) and support personnel is required. He/she is accountable for meeting
departmental budgets.. In addition, this position ensures employees are operating in accordance
within the company's safety policy guidelines, while maintaining a safe working environment
at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures the optimization of departmental operational performance.

2. Provides effective leadership and overall management of the Receiving, Inventory Control,
Shipping and Mailroom functions located at all BDB primary and extended storage locations.

3. Manages and is accountable for achieving objectives on the Logistics Operational


Scorecard.

4. Drives the execution of supply chain strategies for the plant Logistics groups to meet the
goals and objectives of the business including staffing, inventory optimization, equipment and
space requirements.

5. Leading/Driving key inventory and material related processes (business-wide inventory


reviews & optimization, re-engineering KANBAN, barcoding). Inventory Business
process/project management (gap identification, actions, solutions, SAP, etc.)
6. Leads/Drives key cross-functional and cross-business traffic and global distribution
initiatives (continuous improvement, cost reduction, customer experience, quality, SAP &
process optimization as defined in the Supply Chain Business Strategy).

7. Leads the execution of manufacturing replenishment processes based upon operational


strategies and customer needs/expectations.

8. Drives key inventory reconciliation actions and activities with direct impact on OIBT and
bottom line results.

9. Provides sound technical and organizational leadership to drive strategic alliances with
internal customers and external suppliers providing value added materials management
services/processes to the business.

10. May interact with BDB's suppliers by defining process methodologies, driving change,
training and implementing improvements.

11. Leads the execution of global and regional BDB replenishment requirements based upon
business strategies and customer needs/expectations.

12. Participates in operational leadership meetings including the Executive Steering


Committee, Monthly Inventory Reviews, Sales & Operations Planning, Instruments and
Reagents Departmental Meetings, and Planning/Procurement Meetings.

13. Interacts directly with transportation and logistics providers, corporate global
transportation and logistics materials suppliers.

14. Ensures compliance with import/export and global trade regulations.

15. Manage budgets, expenses, and operating ratios to perform at or better than prior year and
budget levels.

16. Ensures a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers including
responsiveness and clearly managing expectations.

17. Ensures compliance to all business and departmental policies.

18. Provides coaching and mentoring for direct reports and functional peers.

19. Keeps abreast of US and non-US regulations affecting own area of


supervision/management and complies with those regulations. Initiates changes to BDIS
practices and procedures to support compliance requirements. Communicates the need for
compliance to members of own functional area. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues
to the attention of the next level of management.
20. Ensures and maintains compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S)
requirements for area of responsibility.

21. Carries out Human Resource management responsibilities such as hires, job assignments,
termination recommendations, transfers, promotions, salary actions, and processes
performance reviews on time.

22. Implements the Company's Affirmative Action Plan as it applies to the function
supervised. Monitors conduct and relationships among the Associates supervised to prevent
discriminatory acts or comments.

Position is located in San Jose California and there are no relocation funds associated with this
role.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· 5-7 years experience in Logistics, Materials Management or Supply Chain processes with an
emphasis on manufacturing, transportation and distribution center management.

· Thorough understanding of the materials, warehousing, shipping and transportation industry


with demonstrated experience in consistently achieving above expectations

· Ability to exercise outstanding independent judgment by utilizing strong analytical and


tactical skills supported by facts and data.

· Demonstrated ability to motivate, challenge and develop cross functional and cross-cultural
groups to deliver the best customer experience possible.

· Ability to work with peers as well as effectively manage up and down the organization.

· Strong analytical problem solving skills.

· Demonstrated continued process/quality improvement experience thorough knowledge of


logistics execution strategies and MRP.

· Ability to work under pressure without sacrificing quality.

· Ability to multitask numerous projects and responsibilities.

· Exceptionally detail oriented and focused.

· Course work in business, accounting or management skills are preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


· Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree (Science or Engineering discipline preferred)
and a minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing, logistics or distribution environment.

· Previous management experience with direct and indirect labor required.

· Experience with continuous improvement tools (i.e. Lean / Six Sigma).

· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Project.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· Experience in project management or supervision with an emphasis on resource planning,


establishing and exceeding deliverable dates, and adherence to budgets.

· Demonstrated ability to exercise outstanding independent judgment by utilizing strong


analytical and tactical skills supported by facts and data.

· Demonstrated hands on experience with SAP and/or similar MRP / MRP II system.

· Thorough knowledge of logistics execution strategies and MRP.

· Ability to work with peers as well as effectively manage up and down the organization.

· Demonstrated ability to motivate, challenge and develop individual contributor level and non-
exempt staff.

· Ability to work under pressure without sacrificing quality.

· Ability to multitask numerous projects and responsibilities.

· Exceptionally detail oriented and focused.

· Course work in business, accounting or management skills are preferred.
