WORKSHOPS

Pre-Forum Workshop : Monday , 27 June 2011

Learn how to build and customize your own high quality eLearning programmes
Registration: 9.00 am
Workshop time: 9.30 am - 4.30 pm

Facilitated by: Elspeth McKay, Associate Professor, RMIT University

About the workshop::

For some people, the thought of developing your own eLearning programmes seems like a daunting task. Often the advice offered is to read the manuals!!
However, if you are a complete novice to Web-based (online) learning resource development, three quarters of your valuable energies can be spent digesting
the jargon. Save yourself the extra stress, relax and take things at a very slow pace to begin with - this is all doable. In no time at all your jargon vocabulary will
increase along with your general comfort level for the ‘graphical user interface’ (more commonly called the GUI) – ooops, what a start!!

An innovative reusable Web-based instructional tool has been designed to provide a sound instructional architecture for people who may not possess high-end
multi-media development skills. This eLearning courseware development tool is therefore ideally suited to be used with existing hard-copy learning/training materials.
In many cases your existing materials have already been designed with careful consideration for the anticipated learning/training outcomes. Following participation in
this interactive workshop you should be able to: develop good quality eLearning content, organise your existing learning resources and know how to translate them
into digital media files. This interactive workshop is therefore intended for non-technical trainers wishing to develop quality online training courses by reusing a
template architecture as your instructional framework.

About your workshop leader:

Elspeth McKay is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the RMIT University, School of Business IT and Logistics, in Melbourne.

Recognized as an active researcher, she is passionate about designing effective eLearning resources for the education sector and industry training/
reskilling programmes, including: investigating how individuals interpret text and graphics within Web 2.0 learning environments. She has designed
e-Learning courseware development tools that are implemented through rich internet applications. Her adaptive eLearning systems include: an
advanced repurposing eLearning system, COGNIWARE–a multi-modal e-Learning framework, GEMS–a global eMuseum System, eWRAP–an electronic
work readiness awareness programme, and EASY–an educational/academic (skills) screening for the young, offering enhanced accessibility through touch screen
technologies. Over the last decade Elspeth has published extensively in the research fields of HCI and educational technology. In recognition of her contribution to the
professional practice of IS research, she was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (FACS).
