Maxima: Touch Probe Calibration

The touch probe calibration of the Maxima will calibrate and account
for any wear in the touch probe tips. This will allow for a more
consistent bevel and/or groove. AIT recommends a calibration once
every morning before the machine is used for the day. Low volume
labs may be fine with a calibration once a week at bare minimum,
though this is not a recommended practice.

The following are step-by-step instructions for a touch probe

calibration of the Maxima. Prior to beginning the calibration, please
have your Maxima Accessory Kit ready. You will need your steel
calibration disc, highlighted in the image below.
The selection buttons depicted below will be referred to as shown.

1) From the normal operating screen push and hold the MENU button
(H7).
2) A new window will appear asking for an access code. This code is
V1, V2, V3, V4. You only have a few seconds to enter this code
correctly.

3) Insert the steel calibration disc from the accessory kit as shown to
the left. Press the blue OPEN/CLOSE button to secure the disc.

recommended practice.

Maxima: Touch Probe Tip Replacement

1) Remove the chucking pad as shown in the image to the left.

From the normal operating screen press and hold the MENU button
(H7). A window will appear asking for an access code. This code is V3,
V3, START, OPEN/CLOSE.

Press and hold the + button (H5) to move the chucking arms down
slightly.

4) Replace the probe tips now. This is easily done by hand but may
require a pair of pliers to loosen them initially.

There are two types of touch probe tips, one type screws on and
another type snaps on.

NOTE: AIT recommends that if one of the touch probe tips needs to be
replaced, the other one be changed at the same time.
5) After replacing the touch probe tips use the Down arrow to
highlight Opto SW sensor Motor and press the + button (H5). The tips
should line up perfectly.

6) Use a philips screw driver to remove the Maxima's cover. There are
four screws, two located on the lower half of each side.

Once open, remove the silver shield seen in the picture to the left. For
this you will need a flat-head screw driver.

The arrows show the locations of each arm's fastener. Loosen the arm
that is off, make the adjustments, and tighten it again.

When the tips meet perfectly, replace the silver shield and the
Maxima's cover.

NOTE: It is important to keep the inside of the machine as dust-free

as possible. AIT recommends the use of a compressed air can,
especially for the mechanics underneath the silver shield.
