PROJECT DESCRIPTION/FAQ:
WHO CAN APPLY: Ideally we would like these pieces to be collaborations between dancers, movement
artists and multimedia artists of all kinds: musicians, composers, fashion/costume designers, video artists,
photographers etc. You may apply as collaborators or as individual artists who we will match together. We
are primarily a dance festival but are open to creative applications from artists in different media who can
make a strong case for the way their work would fit in a dance context.
WHAT: Be imaginative. Your proposals will be reviewed, selected and curated by a committee headed by
Young Soon Kim, Artistic Director of WHITE WAVE. The sites are presented raw—, i.e. no stage, sound
systems, lights, electricity: All production value for the site specific pieces will be self-generated. Successful
applications will propose flexible performances that are adaptable to shifting circumstances and enthusiastic
about the creative potential of collaboration with other artists. Applicants are encouraged to present new
work.
WHERE: The four sites are situated along the Pier 1 waterfront (entrance at Old Fulton and Water Streets) in
DUMBO Brooklyn.
During the Festival the entire neighborhood will be transformed into a multi-sensory public art arena and
site specific works should contribute, not compete with their surroundings, which may or may not include
other artists. Festival goers will be moving between art installations and events so site specific works should
not depend on static, singularly focused audiences. Some sites lend themselves to grand dramatic gestures,
while others suggest smaller, more intimate works; some allow for travelling while others limit movement to
a smaller area. Applicants are strongly encouraged to investigate the sites in person before applying.
