Methodology

Biodiversity, the diversity of living things, is important for ecosystems to

work in a healthy way. Natural environment depletion and over-exploitation,

fueled by our rapidly growing population and unsustainable consumer

preferences, are the major causes of the extinction of species, which is now

up to a thousand times faster than it has been for millions of years. In

addition, Biodiversity conservation is a crucial concern. Rather than leading to

its loss, we all need to make efforts to protect biodiversity. Thus, for the

survival of living beings on earth, the abundance of biodiversity is necessary.

The core that enables ecosystems to work and humans to flourish is

biodiversity. Without the ecosystem's biodiversity, we would not have the

plants and animals we have today, including humans, in our world. They

complement one another over time and keep the ecosystem together. The

environment will lose its stability when a species is removed, thereby causing

it to break down.

The aim of this study intends to evaluate strategically the place, diversity

and natural redevelopment of an area of Foresthill Barangay Sta. Monica

Novaliches. The locality is not that stable, because of the inadequacy and

loss of arboreal. The ground is too low and the houses near the river, which

often overflows every time there is rainfall, causing flood in the area. Flood

waters also subside slowly.

The team conducted a plan on how to help and save the specific area,

the team sent a request letter sent to the local Barangay Chairman, our
proposals are: to perform a cleaning operation every week specially in the

river near the houses, this is done to avoid river stagnation, posting on social

media to spread awareness regarding the importance of biodiversity and how

we could preserve it, and lastly tree planting, we all know how important tree

planting is and and how helpful it is to nature, to both the people and the

environment. Trees help us by supplying oxygen, enhancing air quality,

climate betterment, water protection, soil preservation, and encouraging

biodiversity. In addition, trees basically produce carbon dioxide during the

energy production and generate the oxygen we breathe.

To come to the point, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the

condition and the biodiversity of the locality in the Foresthill Barangay Sta.

Monica Novaliches through various indices of diversity, in order to determine

the factors that effectively reflect the actual status of diversity in the study

setting.

Questions/Hypothesis

1. What is the cause of the destruction of biodiversity in your locality?

The cause of the destruction of biodiversity are the people in our

society who don’t value plant life. The non-stop cutting of trees and the

dumping of wastes in the river causes floods.

2. In your little way, how would you contribute to save our environment?

Informing the neighborhood not to throw waste in the river and to stop

cutting down trees. Maintaining environment cleanliness by proper

segregation of wastes, these will greatly contribute in saving the local

biodiversity.
3. As one of the residents in the community, are you willing to cooperate with

the given solution to save/ improve our surroundings? Why?

Yes, requiring the right conduct to make it easier to organize and

enhance the community, not just because it is necessary, but also to make it

better.

4. How to increase the effectiveness of the institutional policy of biodiversity?

The biggest obstacles are the implementation and regulation of

policies. We need to implement a new law to preserve our biodiversity that will

reduce the traditional brown economy and transform it into a sustainable

green economy.

The non-stop cutting of trees and the wastes in the river blocks the

water from flowing that causes flooding when typhoons come. Through public

information and dissemination, for people not to throw waste in the river and

stop cutting down trees, will help to save the environment. Having a policy

and right actions would make it easier for the community to coordinate and

improve.

Problem and Objectives

The main problem in the given setting is that the river overflows too

quickly because of wastes dumped by households near it, because of this as

well the locality is prone to flooding. Another factor is inadequacy and

loss of arboreal.

The main objective of this study is to help the area of Foresthill

Barangay Sta. Monica Novaliches to become stable in terms of river flow. This
study aims to help the locals to naturally redevelop their area by conducting a

project of cleaning operation in the river every week to prevent river

stagnation. In addition to that, this study spreads awareness about the

biodiversity and how to save it by posting on social media. Lastly, the team

did a knowledge sharing to the locality on how to plant trees because we all

know that trees help absorb water and prevent flooding.

Practical and Theoretical

The locality area of Barangay Santa Monica may have water pollution

that will cause flooding. Water pollution can contribute to why rivers overflow.

Predictably, humans are mainly responsible for water pollution, even though

natural phenomena such as landslides and flooding can still lead to the

degradation of water quality. Humans have openly harmed biodiversity and

aquatic ecosystems. Thermal contamination, characterized by increasing

water body temperatures, leads to global warming and poses significant

threats to water organisms. To support each other to clean up the

environment, we joined the community drive. Water conservation is necessary

to ensure the continuous abundance of water that is clean to use for

ourselves and the future generations. Water pollution is any water

degradation produced by humans that limits water utility to living organisms of

nature.

Our approach to empower the people is to teach them how to reduce,

reuse, and recycle their wastes, highlighting to them not to throw wastes in

the river. Nowadays that climate change is evident, the threat of the weather
coming back to bring damage to us is relatively high. With only a few trees

and a few plants planted in the locality, the river also poses a risk of

overflowing.

Describe how your proposal be developed and how you will bring out

this results.

This study aims to propagate awareness by the stated objectives

above and we think that it is important and helpful at the same time for the
audiences because all of us may suffer in this if we keep being irresponsible,
every waste that we throw anywhere, every trees we cut down causes risks in
our environment. The team would like to create a page on Facebook to
spread awareness so that our study will develop. Lastly, we are planning to
promote a tree planting drive, we all know how important and helpful nature it
is to plant trees to both the people and the environment .

To give results, if the chairman in that barangay agrees with our

proposal, we will conduct a meeting with the whole barangay thru google

meet, since we are still facing pandemic as of today. In the meeting, we will

inform them how important our environment is, we will also ask for volunteers

who can clean up the locality. Our goal in this meeting is to share with them

the importance of our environment and how we could preserve it.
