14To earn profits through the venture.

INTRODUCTION

On hearing that mam has given us a project wherein we are required

to invest our own money & earn profit on the investment made; the
one reaction which came through our mind was that how is it possible
to start a business within such a short period of time. But then we sat
together & thought over it. There are so many different kind/types of
business that can be started within a single i.e. think today & start
tomorrow.

Then we started thinking as to which type of business we can choose s

to earn profit out of it. There were different ideas which came through
our mind; some of them were Flower business, selling shirts & Tshirts,
Cosmetics (Perfume), etc.One of the most interesting idea was of
buying grocery for people (family, neighbours, friends, etc).

But then looking @ todays market where people arer going in for
saving due to recession which has had its impact on each & every
country & later the resources available for us, this concept of selling
hot and fresh break fast in the early hours of morning struck us. We
found the concept unique and also challenging. A proper market study
was done at Joggers Park, bandra; Shivaji Park, mahim; five gardens,
wadala; priyadarshini park and worli sea face, we concluded
maximum population could be targeted at Shivaji Park, pdp and worli
sea face. But on 26 th january due to the ban of all stalls everywhere
else, we set up our business at five gardens.

MARKET RESEARCH

1. Why shivaji park?

According to the research undertaken at Joggers Park,

bandra; Shivaji Park, mahim; and five gardens, wadala,
maximum population could be targeted at Shivaji Park. The
walk-way around the ground perimeter is crowded with
people taking walks, especially in the mornings. The
circumference of the park works out to about 1.3 kilometers.
Many young cricketers come for morning practice and could
be targeted easily. Similarly teenagers, mid aged and elderly
people come for morning walks.
2. Why the menu selected?

Market research regarding the preferences of the people in

the morning drew us to a conclusion that most people would
prefer idli, upma, poha, tea, coffee. In the early hours at
around 6.30 people prefer early morning tea and then later
above mentioned break fast at around 7.30- 8.00.

3. How can we improve the quality compared to other

vendors in the area?

18According to the complaints of the customers of the

other vendors, we found that upma did not have a very
good taste as it was made in oil. We decided to make
the same thing in ghee to offer a more rich taste.
19Every single thing in the menu would be home made,
made in the early hours of the morning.

4. Why early hours of the morning?

*Early morning elderly people do prefer to have tea

*After some exercise and jogging, people feel hungry and

mostly like to have a light snack.
*The young cricketers practicing on the ground also would
prefer to have a snack.

*There would also be no problem of cops or bmc in the early

hours.

RISK FACTORS
For every business there are certain risk factors involved and this is
also true our business. Our business has some serious risk too which
are stated below:

Wastage: Wastage also did happen on the days when the whole
stock did not sell. The waste included paper plates and plastic
glass in which the food was served. The waste was collected in
a black garbage bag and was disposed at garbage collection
point provided by BMC at dadar shivaji park.

Bmc clearance: Early morning hours were particularly selected

to avoid bmc problems. We use to wind up by 9.00 am.
Varied Tastes and preferences: On many occasions, people
asked for the foodstuffs that were not available with us. The
taste and preferences of the customer varied with respect to
the quality of the food provide to them on each day.

On day one there were three items namely-

Idli-For IDLI we got good response from our customers.the
quality of our product was compared to that of our competitor
in that area.

UPMA-upma was made at home and in pure ghee which was

our USP.the quality of the upma on first day was successful in
pulling our customers on the second day.

TEA- tea the preferences were different, where some liked tea
with sugar and some without sugar.some even asked for
coffee.

Fasting – non fasting food: On the 2 nd day of our project , we

found out that many people in the area keep a fast on Tuesday,
due to that we registered a low profit.

Location: In shivaji park , there were two more similar stalls

that were our competitors.
FINANCIAL FACTORS

100% of sales are projected as cash sales.

PRICING:

Pricing which has got to do much with our turnover & so we kept our
margin @ the lowest level possible, because if one has to
remain/survive in the market for a longer duration or retain the
customers & attract more customers, the profit margin should be kept
at a reasonable rate

MARKETING FACTORS

As our main usp was service and quality so marketing department had
a major role to play. Promoting our products was the only option to
increase the sale. So two people from the group were given the job
just to market the product.
Also some promotional strategies like wearing a white t-shirt with the
company name and post engraved on it were some promotional
techniques. Also the hired car had stickers stuck on it giving details
about the menu and the project. Also good communication skills were
a promotion plan to attract more customers. Making use of modern
and innovative techniques were part of the markteing plan.

4ps of marketing can be explained as follows:

Product:
The products selected were decided according to the research
undertaken. Everything served by us was home made and
hygienic which attracted customers. Also the paper plates,
spoons and glasses were clean and of good quality which
created a good packaging.

Price:
Pricing which has got to do much with our turnover & so we
kept our margin @ the lowest level possible, because if one has
to remain/survive in the market for a longer duration or retain
the customers & attract more customers, the profit margin
should be kept at a reasonable rate.
Place:
According to the research undertaken at Joggers Park, bandra;

Promotion:

and the project were some promotional techniques. Active and
good communication skills were undertaken by the marketing
guys by referring every prospective customer as ‘sir’ or

CONCLUSION
In our 4 days of business, we learnt a lot about entrepreneurship. We
came across a lot of problems but some quick thinking and creativity
came to our rescue.

We came across various kind of customers during this project, some

were quite supportive, some praised the concept, some praised our
products, but they were people who also snubbed us off. During this
project we learnt a lot about various kinds of people and also how we
can handle them. We saw customer satisfaction and also customer
dissatisfaction and customer recovery too. We learnt a lot about the
importance of 'word of mouth' advertising.

In the last three years of our education we have not come across any
such project which gave us so much of practical knowledge about our
subject. During this period of recession when people are loosing their
jobs, Entrepreneurship is best option. This dosnt mean that earlier it
wasnot givn importance, but now people would realize that one can
earn money not only by working 4 others but also by doing their own
business. It was a great learning experience. It was a experience we
will surely remember for ever
