Document Conventions
The following conventions are used throughout this guide.
CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in
damage to data or equipment, or minor to moderate injury. It may also be used to alert
against unsafe practices.
Introduction
This guide describes how to set up and configure an Amino AmiNET Set Top Box (STB)
to decode and display Multicast and Unicast streams from HaiVision’s TASMAN, CUDA,
hai500 series, or hai1000 series encoders. See “Supported STB Products” below.
This document is not intended as a comprehensive integration guide for the AmiNet
products. For detailed information about Amino products, please refer to the Amino user
documentation or contact them directly at www.aminocom.com.
Requirements
IMPORTANT In order to configure the AmiNET STB, you must have an IR (Infra Red)
keyboard, LAN, encoded video source, and local display.

The above matrix indicates the assumed compatibility between Amino set top box decoders
and HaiVision encoders according to specification. HaiVision has tested our encoders
extensively with the AmiNET 110, 124, 125, and 130 products and includes compatibility
testing within our Quality Assurance release procedures with the AmiNET 124, 125, and
130 products. Exact compatibility may only be calibrated with certain revisions of Amino
and HaiVision firmware.
Getting Started
IMPORTANT In order to configure the AmiNET STB, you must use an IR (Infra Red)
keyboard.
Logging In
1. To access the Management pages, from the IR keyboard, press Alt-m to bring up the
Password field.
The password is set by default to leaves.
The tasks associated with these pages are discussed in the sections that follow.
CAUTION Do not select Update Software. Initiating the Update Software option will
cause the AmiNET STB to malfunction.
Network Configuration
DHCP Configuration
The AmiNET STB has Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) as the factory
default. If your network has a DHCP server on it, the AmiNET STB will automatically
acquire an IP address.
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and enter the password (the default is snake).
4. Click Save Changes.
CAUTION Do not select Packet Ordering. Initiating the Packet Ordering option will
cause the AmiNET STB to malfunction.
Static IP Configuration
If your network does not have a DHCP server, or you wish to statically configure the
AmiNET STB’s IP address, follow these steps.
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and enter the password (the default is snake).
4. Click Save Changes.
The Browser Setup page allows you to configure the AmiNET STB to access a particular
web address upon boot-up. For example, you may wish to set up the AmiNET STB to
connect to an encoder steam address and begin decoding upon boot-up.
TIP To set the AmiNET STB’s Home page to an encoder stream’s Destination IP
address, set the address according to the instructions outlined in “Channel
Configuration” on page 16.
To specify a web address for the AmiNET STB to access upon boot-up:
1. From the STB Management page, select Browser Setup.
2. On the Browser Setup page, in the Home Page field, enter the IP address to connect
to.
3. In the Help Page field, enter a web address for the Help page.
The sample screenshot below shows a Multicast steam address (2325.64.22.42 on port
5000).
NOTE The other options on this page should remain unchanged for basic
configurations.
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and enter the password (the default is snake).
5. Click Save Changes|Submit.
Video Setup
The Video Setup page allows you to set the AmiNET STB’s video connections. The two
key options are:
• TV Standard (NTSC or PAL) and
• Output Format (Composite, S-Video, or Composite + RGB)
TIP For typical usage, you can leave the rest of the video settings at their default
values.
4. When you have finished configuring the video settings, scroll down to the bottom of
the page and enter the password (the default is snake).
5. Click Submit.
Channel Configuration
Channel Selection
The Channel Selection page allows you to select a range of channels to define.
1. From the STB Management page, select Channels.
2. On the Channel Selection page, enter a range in the From and To fields (by default 0
to 10) and click Edit Channel Range.
-or-
Select one of the predefined channel range groups.
Channel Configuration
The Channel Configuration page allows you to define the channels to decode from.
1. For each channel, enter the encoder stream information to be decoded and viewed into
the channel’s edit box. See the sections below for information on specifying unicast
vs. multicast streams, as well as URLs.
• The screenshot above shows a sample Channel Configuration page with four con-
figured channels, all set to decode multicast streams.
2. When you have finished configuring the channels, scroll down to the bottom of the
page and enter the password (the default is snake).
3. Click Submit.
This will open the Config OK page.
4. Press Enter/Return to return to the STB Management page.
NOTE RTP encapsulation is not supported on AmiNET STBs. The AmiNET STB
cannot decode streams encoded with RTP encapsulation. Make sure the relevant
encoder streams have the Encapsulation setting configured to UDP.
Specifying a URL
To set the AmiNET STB to display a URL/web page, simply enter the URL into the
channel’s edit box.
NOTE You can set an AmiNET STB to decode/view an encoder stream or any URL
without configuring the channels simply by typing the appropriate string in the URL
edit box at the top of each AmiNET STB web page and pressing Return/Enter.
Auto-Resume (optional)
To configure the AmiNET STB to automatically refresh video after a loss of power or
network communication, follow these steps:
2. Change “No IGMP event timeout” and “IGMP End of media event timeout” to 0
(zero).
3. Open the Browser Setup page. (See “Browser Setup (optional)” on page 13)
4. In the “Home Page” field, enter a text string describing the channel to be used during
auto resume.
The format of the text string is the same as that used during Channel Configuration
(Example: igmp://225.168.1.88:50688, see “Specifying Multicast Streams” on
page 18).
TIP To verify auto-resume, remove the Ethernet cable from the STB while running
video, and then plug it back in to see if the video comes up automatically.
The AmiNET STB is now configured to receive and decode encoder streams.
You can use the AmiNET STB remote control to change to the configured channels and
start viewing. For instructions, refer to the Amino AmiNET Installation Guide.
Additional Information
Software Version
If you are contacting Technical Support, you will need to provide the software version
number.
To find the software version for the STB you are using:
1. From the STB Management page, select Software Version.
The software version will be displayed.
2. Please write down this number so you will have it when needed.
