DPST – Direct Pump Setting Tool

HPI’s 3-1/2” Direct Pump Setting Tool (DPST) with 3” Multi-stage

compact hydrostatic bottom setting Tool is a resettable electro
mechanical pump used to set the Retrievable and Cast Iron Bridge Plugs.
The DPST contains a Hydraulic Power Pack Assembly that contains the
motor controller, brushless motor, gear reducer and high pressure
hydraulic pump. Clean hydraulic fluid can be carried in the Power Pack
housing because the motor is brushless. When the motor is running, this
fluid is pumped into the multi-stage setting tool pistons through the
hydraulic pump and into the Fluid Director. The pressurized fluid pushes
the pistons up relative to the Setting Sleeve thereby setting the
Retrievable Bridge Plug attached below the DPST.
When the Bridge Plug is set and the DPST is returned to the surface, it
can be reset without redressing the tool. The Fluid Stop Plug is removed
and replaced with the Fluid Circulation Plug to allow hydraulic fluid back
into the Power Pack chamber. A Parker Plug is removed and a fill
adapter is installed in the parker plug port. The rig air supply is used to
force the Pistons back to their original position. Because the Fluid Stop
Plug is removed, hydraulic fluid has a flow path back into the Power pack
chamber. A check valve prevents the hydraulic fluid from returning to the
pistons.
Once the tool is “cocked”, the Fluid Stop Plug is installed and the Parker
Plug is replaced. The DPST is then ready to run and the Retrievable
Bridge Plug can be installed.

UNIQUE FEATURES

• Multiple resets before redressing are required. The DPST can

be reset on location multiple times using only rig air pressure.
• Carries fluid for setting packer. Only clean hydraulic fluid
passes through the pump ensuring efficient operation and low
wear. Well fluids are not used to operate tool.
• Uses Field Proven Hydrostatic Setting Tool. The setting piston
module is used with other field proven HPI Setting Tools.
• No explosives required. Safe operation

APPLICATIONS

The DPST is designed to set multiple bridge plugs or packers in coal bed
methane wells where setting tool needs to be reset quickly on location
without being redressed.
