Dual Credit Biotechnology and Biology Info Sheet

What about HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT?

Biotechnology
You are currently enrolled in “Intro to Biotechnology” through AISD. This is a weighted (honors) course.
This will count as a 4th year Science Credit on your transcript ONLY if you take this course as dual credit.
If you DO NOT take it as dual credit it will count as a Science Elective. Either way, is appears favorable to
take any 4th year Science course to colleges.

Dual Credit Biology

You are currently enrolled in Scientific Research and Design. This is a weighted course. This course will
count as a 4th year Science Credit for all graduation plans. We have enrolled you in this course to ensure
that you receive science credit in your graduation plan for taking a college course. Currently, AISD does
not know how to “code” college Science Courses for high school credit (partly because we are the first to
do it) so to make things easy we have put this class under Scientific Research and Design.

What about COLLEGE CREDIT?

Biotechnology
In November, I will take you through the Early College Start process (if you haven’t already done so) and
enroll you in BITC 1311 at ACC. An ACC representative will come to Anderson and we will take care of
ALL ACC enrollment. Although Biotech is a year long course in High School, it is only a semester course
at ACC, so you will only enroll in the Spring semester. Your ACC grade will be given by me in early May.
Transferability of course will depend on your major and the college you chose to attend. Check with your
college counselors.

Dual Credit Biology

In November, I will take you through the Early College Start process (if you haven’t already done so) and
enroll you in BIOL 1408 at ACC. An ACC representative will come to Anderson and we will take care of
ALL ACC enrollment. Although Dual Credit Biology is a year long course in High School, it is only a
semester course at ACC, so you will only enroll in the Spring semester. Your ACC grade will be given by
me in early May. This course is fully transferable to any Texas state college as Biology Credit for non-
Science majors. It may also transfer to private colleges. You will have to check with your college
counselor.

How much will this course cost?

Tuition: NONE-AISD pays for student tuition to ACC for a max of 2 courses per semester

Books: Normally, students are required to purchase their own textbooks in all college/dual credit courses (just
like a regular college course). Mrs. Houser has provided funds for me to purchase a class set to avid the large
expense of books. You are NOT REQUIRED to purchase the course textbook and it is not recommended for the
BIOTECH course. I do recommend purchasing a used copy of the Biology course textbook so you can keep one at
home to study. Info about the book is on the syllabus

Lab Notebooks-Must purchase on your own

Lab Fees: $5.00 for consumable lab materials throughout the year

Field Trips: Some field trips may be subsidized by AISD

Online Grades: 50 cents-See Online Grade Handout
