Gone are the days when the students of Distance Education Mode in Indian
context were considered inferior to students passed out of regular colleges
or Universities. Our University, committed to the principles of 'expansion,
equity and excellence' has taken care that candidates awarded degrees and
diplomas under Distance Learning Programme have attained the same
academic standard, irrespective of the mode or place of study. In pursuance
of this approach we are engaging the same teachers, who are teaching in
the University and in its affiliated colleges, to prepare the study material,
teach the contact classes and evaluate the answer scripts.

Technology @ YGen
There has been substantial evidence around the world that technology has become one of the most
important and vital components to education and in recent past is playing a vital role in distance education.
In fact, it is safe to say that modern distance education would be impossible without access to technology
that can deliver information via the Internet to students in multiple locations. In other words the IT will take
away the “distance” from distance education. The student's perspective (without the use of technology in
education)
In the absence of technology the students are facing the following problems:
l They are missing vital information of new courses and changes in industry.
l They do not know what exactly to learn.
l They go to classes that were cancelled without any notification and most time get mediocre faculty to
teach them.
All of these decrease the motivation level and interest in education of the students.
The teacher's perspective (without the use of technology in education):
In the absence of technology the teachers are facing the following problems:
l They do not know what students are doing.
l They have difficulty with spreading information.
l They find difficult to reach students.
l A majority of teachers themselves are either not updated or under-qualified and due to lack of
information & knowledge they do not benefit from new advances and continue to teach outdated material.
l They have often complains of high work load.
Applications designed to facilitate distance learning are available to student and teacher at YGen:
l These programs integrate material and organize it so it can be accessed from computers.
l Students can record lessons and access pictures, slides and notes at their convenience.
l Security protocols allow only registered students to access material
l Assessment programs provide secure testing environments with automated grading and instant
feedback.
This tool is web based and is available for all registered CDC students and teachers. Slient features of this
tool are:
l Allows teachers and students to comment and discuss sections of text books.
l Link supplementary material for further study.
l Share lectures, assignments, exercises, tests and so on.
l Allows development of training material for helping teachers and administrators update and enhance
their skills.
l A system where every teacher is able to access and use teaching aids developed anywhere and by
anyone
