NOTIFICATION
Applications are invited from the candidates who desire to register
themselves for Ph. D. in the subjects viz. (i) Biotechnology, (ii) Botany, (iii)
Business Administration (iv) Chemistry (v) Commerce, (vi) Computer Science,
(vii) Economics, (viii) Education, (ix) Electronic Science, (x) English, (xi) History,
(xii) Home Science, (xiii) Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, (xiv)
Law, (xv) Linguistics, (xvi) Mathematics, (xvii) Marine Science (in Marine Biology
or Oceanography), (xviii) Mass Communication (xix) Oriya, (xx) Pharmacy, (xxi)
Physics, (xxii) Political Science, (xxiii) Tribal Studies (xxiv) Women’s Studies and
(xxv) Zoology.

Eligibility:
Applicants should have a Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline with at
least 55% of marks or an equivalent grade (50% of marks or equivalent grade for
SC, ST and Physically challenged candidates) of Berhampur University or any
other University/Institution recognized by the University/UGC. College teachers
and professionals with 15 years of experience should have at least 48% of marks
at Master’s Degree level.

Mode of application:
All eligible candidates desirous to apply for Ph. D. under Berhampur
University shall apply in the prescribed format (two sets) downloaded from the
university website www.bamu.nic.in along with a Bank Draft for Rs.700/-
(Rupees seven hundred) only drawn in favour of Comptroller of Finance,
Berhampur University payable at State Bank of India (Code 2107), Bhanja Bihar,
Berhampur – 760 007, Odisha.

Note:
(i) For details on Ph. D. registration and on interdisciplinary/allied
subjects, exemption from University Research Eligibility Test
(URET), selection of guide(s) and course work please see
“Regulations for Doctor of Philosophy” of Berhampur University
notified in the university website/University Office (Academic
Section), Berhampur University.
(ii) Candidates who have qualified in NET conducted by the
UGC/CSIR or such tests conducted by national bodies like the
IACR/ICHR/ICSSR etc. and candidates who have got an M. Phil.
Degree (those who have been admitted into the M. Phil. Course

through an Entrance Test) are exempted from appearing at this


URET, should also apply for Ph. D. registration along with the
required fees. They are also required to appear an interview along
with the other candidates qualifying URET, to be conducted by the
Staff Council of the concerned Department, as provided in the
Regulations; failing which their cases shall not be considered.
(iii) Admission to the Ph. D. programme cannot be claimed as a matter
of right. The vacancies/slots taking into account the staff strength of
the Department shall be spread over for a period of three years and
accordingly the individual Department shall admit eligible
candidates for Ph. D. registration in the current session.

University Research Eligibility Test (URET):


The Test shall comprise of one paper of 100 marks of three hours duration.
The questions shall cover all the papers taught in the P.G./M. Phil. (where there is
no P.G.) course of the concerned subject of Berhampur University or its affiliated
institutions. The question paper shall comprise of 50 per cent objective type and
50 per cent short answer type questions. The minimum pass mark shall be 50 per
cent of maximum marks.

Venue: First Humanities Block, Berhampur University, Bhanja Bihar

Application requirements:
Application in the prescribed format duly filled in along with the Bank
Draft, self attested copies of the certificates and mark lists in support of academic
qualifications, professional experience and two self addressed envelopes affixing
stamps worth Rs.25/- in each should be sent to the undersigned so as to reach on
or before 10th March 2011(Thursday) positively.

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES APPEARING AT THE URET

1. Produce the Admit Card before entering into the hall and during the Test on demand.
2. The hall shall open 15 minutes before the commencement of Test. Examinees must
bring their own blue/black ballpoint pen. No paper or material other than Admit Card
shall be allowed to be in possession of the candidates during the Test.
3. Candidates are not allowed to leave the hall during the period of Test. Temporary
absence from the hall is not ordinarily permissible. However, only after completion of one
hour from the commencement of the Test, a candidate may be allowed under
extraordinary circumstances to leave the hall temporarily for not more than three minutes
with the permission of the Invigilator/Centre Superintendent.
4. Candidates should write only on the answer sheet supplied and should not make note on
any other paper. While answering, they must use blue/black ballpoint pens only.
5. Candidates are not allowed to leave any identifying mark(s) anywhere on the answer
sheet other than those required at specified places. Violation of this rule shall amount to
adopting unfair means. Resort to any such unfair means or soliciting help from co-
examinees or any other person or misbehavior of any kind will automatically disqualify
the candidate. For this purpose the report of the Invigilator/Examiner is sufficient.
6. For any other rules not provided for in these instructions the decision of the Chairman,
P.G. Council/Coordinator URET shall be final and binding.
7. If you have submitted Mark Sheet in grade scale, you are required to produce
immediately the equivalent marks from the institution which has issued that mark sheet.
8. Your eligibility is subject to the condition that your qualifying degree is equivalent to the
corresponding Degree of Berhampur University.
9. Ineligible candidates as per the provisions in the prospectus are advised not to appear at
the Test.
Mobile Phone, Pager, Calculator etc. shall not be allowed into the Examination Hall.
