One of our Assistant Scout Leaders, Oliver has now returned to university and will no longer be able to give all of his time to the Scout section, so I need a Assistant Scout Leader to help the section and any other help for the Scout section or the other sections is always welcome. Even if you can only spare an hour a month it will all help and provide a diverse programme for our Scouts. Important Group NEWS At a recent committee meeting we were faced with some stark facts about our Scout Hut and its general state of repair both seen and unseen. We have been advised by a local building surveyor of the work required and timescale of when that work is required to be done by. In light of the work load of the committee it was decided to set up a steering group to progress the refurbishment. (this does not entail doing the work but any help would be appreciated). The steering group will have the full backing and support of the Group Executive Committee We need some people, be that parent, carer, aunty, uncle or grandparents or anyone who feels they can help in the steering group. The post we need to fill are: Chair person Secretary Publicity Officer Fund Raising Co-ordinator We also need a new Secretary for our Group Exec Committee as Kath Munday who, due to work has had to resign as our secretary. She will however still be involved with the committee, attending as and when she can. Big thanks to Kath for the work she has done. CTRL, ALT and DEL
Huge thanks goes to David Pillow (Quartermaster) and John Fleck (Scout Leader) for the thankless task of sorting out all of our camping gear, repair- ing it and cataloguing it all. It’s their aim to get the lists on to our web site so fellow leaders can “book” equipment for camps etc.
Talking about our website, anyone who has tried over the summer to visit the Group site will no doubt be aware it disappeared in the great void of the internet. Basically we were lucky enough to have the site hosted by Escouts for free, however they had two servers fail on them and have now decided not to offer hosting, this meant we lost all of the hard work our Webmaster (in training) Mike Sweeting had put into the site. But as the saying goes every cloud has a silver lining, thanks to a parent Hugh Waters who made us an offer of free hosting and to assist with the website. At the moment we still have a temporary website but I have seen part of the new site and it’s clear that our Webmaster and his helpers have been very busy and are in the process of producing a fantastic clean up-to-date web- site that we can all be very proud of. A big thanks to Peter Dunn, a parent committee member for organising two HQ clean ups which helped identify other problems and I am sure we found stuff we had forgotten about or lost....

Day to Remember and reflect
14th November 2010 will be the Dursley annual remembrance day parade. This year its our intention to lay a wreath in honour of the thousands who gave their life so that we may have a good life. Times and start point will be advised as soon as I am made aware of them but I do ask that as many people as possible turn up, those on parade, be smart, clean and respectful of the occasion as you never know who is watching or where our next donation will come from. During the summer holidays, one parent, Lois Edmunds spent time and energy making the group some new neckers as we had run out, all concerned with 1st Dursley Group would like to say a huge thanks for your time and effort.
Christmas cards A reminder to parents that the Group is running a competition for a Christmas card design and the winning cards will be professionally produced for us to sell and raise funds for the day to day running of the Group, so please hold off buying from the shops and buy our quality cards and help the Group funds.
