A Lesson Plan in Reading for K-2

I. Objectives

After completing this lesson, the children will

1. Know the meaning of the name “Moses”

2. Learn that God protects us and has a plan for each of our lives

3. Identify the things and people who protects them

II.Subject Matter

Topic: Moses as a Baby (God's Protection)

Material: Video clip through Overhead Projector, pictures of things


and people

Reference: My Bible Friends (Book 1)

III. Procedure

Review: The story of Joseph the dreamer

Motivation: Sing the song “if you’re happy and you know it”

Presentation:

1. Introduction:
Today we will learn about the birth of Moses. Moses was born a
long time ago in Egypt. But he was not an Egyptian. He was an
Israelite. At that time the Pharaoh of Egypt gave an order that
every newborn baby boy was to be thrown into the Nile River
and killed, but baby girls could live. That doesn't sound fair does
it? Can you imagine the sadness parents had when a baby boy
was born? But this is a story about how God can protect his own
chosen people, even during evil times like this.
2. Do you want to know the story of Moses?

3. Okay let’s watch this video.

4. (Present the video clip about Moses’ birth)

5. Discuss the following Questions:

a. Instead of throwing Moses into the Nile, what did his


mother do with him for the first three months of his life?

b. When his mother could hide him no longer, what did she
do with Moses?

c. Where did Pharaoh's daughter find the baby?

d. What was Pharaoh's daughter doing when she found


Moses?

e. Do you think Moses was found by accident, or was it God's


plan?

f. Who did Pharaoh's daughter find to nurse the baby?

g. What was the name “Moses” means?

6. Ask the students to choose the picture in the table that protects
them and paste it on the board in the right column.
IV. Evaluation

Moses in the Nile (Skit for six children)

V. Assignment

Answer and color the activities on the book, pages 3-5.
