Popular 1940’s Candy

Due to the Second World War and the scarcity of sugar, candy innovation
and production was lean. After 1945, a few iconic candies were introduced
but none would gain as much fame as Bazooka Bubble Gum! Packaged in
a Red, White and Blue Wrapper, this gum is more associated with the
history of American sweets than, perhaps, any other gum before or since.
 Whoppers
 Bazooka
 Black licorice
A common misconception is that Bazooka was named after the weapon
bearing its namesake. It actually was named after a musical instrument

Popular 1940’s Candy

Smarties, also known as Candy Roll Wafers, were invented in 1949 by the
Ce De Candy Company. Commonly referred to as candy pills, these
classic candies have remained relatively unchanged in appearance and
taste for over sixty (60) years!

 Smarties
 Junior Mints
 Almond Joy
1942-1945 Women working on the Whitman's Sampler production line
secretly slipped notes to soldiers in those boxes destined for military
shipment. The notes resulted in several long-term friendships and even a
few marriages.
