Aim:
The objective of the assignment is to give you practice in understanding how Information Systems
are used in today’s business organizations. The aims to give you exposure to basic concepts
discussed in the course and also to encourage you to "look around" for the type of work you may be
doing in a few years as IS professionals.

Assignment Overview
You will be carrying out the complete analysis of an Information Systems of your choice. You will
work on a systems study of your choice and the grades given for the project will be reflected in
your mid-term assessment. You work on real-world cases and interact with users to determine the
Information Systems used in business.

Tasks
Find a business organization of your choice and identify what are the Information Systems in use.
Prepare a complete report covering the following aspects of the use of IS in business.

What to hand in:

a) Overview of the business organization (type of business, business functions performed,

products/ services and organization structure).
b) Discuss the information needs in order to perform the business functions identified above.
c) Briefly describe the Information Systems in use.
d) The purpose(s)/ objective(s) of implementing such systems.
e) Categorize the identified ISs according to the classifications that you have learned in class.

 f) Illustrate the functions of ISs (input, storage, processing and output) in form of diagrams
(data and information needs for the system to work).
g) Discuss the infrastructure facilitating towards the IS implementation.
h) Categorize the users of identified ISs (internal and external) and describe their information
requirements.
i) Discuss how the organization ensure the ethical use of IS within the organization.
j) Briefly discuss the benefits gained from implementing ISs.
k) Based on your findings suggest other Information Systems that will improve the business
process of the organization.

Additional notes:

The items listed above are a good starting point for your Table of Contents. You may organize this
to meet your specific needs, but each of these topic areas should be covered. The report should be
hand on or before 8th of March 2011.
