The consensus is that you
are too clever, according to a new
study. A team of researchers for
the Collins dictionary in Britain
has carried out the study and
found that people often misspelt
a number of ‘confusing’ words as
they are actually too clever.
According to them, the most
commonly misspelt English word
is supersede – many come up
with ‘supercede’ because of their
knowledge of other words includ-
ing intercede or precede, the
‘Daily Mail’ reported.
The same theory applies to
other words like consensus, li-
quefy and sacrilegious, the study
found. “The real spelling prob-
lems occur when people have
learnt the rules or have a bit of
knowledge, but make mistakes in
how they apply this,” Ian

ments. To start off with, she has
played 9 ODIs for the Indian Wom-
en’s cricket team, her career best was

match when she was just 16 years old,
and she was adjudged Player of the
tournament 2006 Asia Cup. She was a
part of the 2008 Asia Cup team as
well. She has now, at the age of eigh-
teen, created history by being the on-
ly girl to be chosen by the BCCI for a
training camp in Australia.
“When I was a kid, I used to wake
up early to watch the West Indies
matches with my dad. What started as
an interest became a fiery passion
and I started playing for the state by
the time I was 10,” says Thirush on
how she started playing cricket. Her
dad played ‘coach’ and trained her for
the state team. Now, the 18-year-old
has become an all rounder; a left-
handed batswoman, leg spinner and
a wicket keeper. She undertakes rig-
orous physical training in the form of
running and different kinds of speed
and agility tests. Her dad M. Dickesh-
washankar adds: “In one of the tour-
naments (Blue Sky tournament), she
played along with boys and was ad-
judged the man of the tournament.”
She was also the only girl from Tamil
Nadu to have captained the South
Zone team.
Talking about the competition in
the international arena Thirush says,
“The competition is healthy especial-
ly when we are pitted against Austra-
lia and England. We have to keep
ourselves fit and alert throughout the
game to produce positive results.”
The young cricketer considers it an
honour to play with players like Jhu-
lan Goswami, Arjuna award winner
and Mithali Raj. Thirush, a B.Com
Corporate Secretaryship student from
MOP Vaishnav, feels studies and
cricket are both equally important.
She spreads out her agenda and
makes sure she does not miss out on
either.
She has set practical goals for her-
self and wants to bring laurels to the
country. As she moves on to her net
pratice sessions, another young girl

“But everything cannot be scripted. Even
if something happens naturally or acciden-
tally in the show, people tend to think it is
scripted,” she says.

making a television promo

he rugged Binny Mills wore a festive
look. Balloons adorned the rusty
walls, dancers swarmed the place,
T light men were setting up the reflec-
tors and there was Ramya, anchor of the
show, diligently practising her steps.
It was close to 2.30 p.m. and the relent-
less Chennai sun was beating down the
dancers. We were there to witness the
promo shoot of Vijay TV‘s “Ungalil Yaaru
Adutha Prabhu Deva”.
The heat and humidity notwithstand-
ing, dance master Sridhar was relentless
as he choreographed the promo. Raj, the
producer of the show, was beaming
about the scale at which the promo was
being shot.
“This is the first time that a promo is
being shot being shot at such a grand
scale. Promos are an integral part of suc-
cess for any show … after all it’s the pro-
mo that tempts the audience to stay
glued to the show.”
The energy level of the dancers was
high. The fact that the shoot was from
6:30 a.m did not dampen their spirits, the
movements only got better as time
progressed.
It was difficult for the crew of Vijay TV
to manage the crowd as there were
around 300 dancers in the location. “I am

which the whole thing is done does not
seem like a reality show but like that of a
mainstream movie. This is the first time I
am anchoring a reality show.”
Speaking in between the shoot, dance
Master Sridhar said he was very happy to
be associated with the project. He said a
lot of new talents surfaced through these
kinds of shows.
“I am surprised that there are more
than 2,000 participants from Chennai
alone. Out of them, 200 have been shor-
tlisted.” After breaking away from the
tete-e-tete, Sridhar finally okayed a shot
after many, many, many takes.
