With love and gratitude I thank my husband and son for

all their support in realizing this book.

I am grateful to ancient and contemporary writers;

teachers who enlighten us. Especially to Viktor Frankl my
chosen teacher, for not only inspiring me but also awakened
me to see my abundance. And I’m deeply grateful to the
many authors from various publications quoted in this
book.

Special thanks go to those who read my manuscript, for

their invaluable suggestions and above all, I thank you, the
reader.

I ndeed, once Obama learned how to apply the Nine Secret

Tools into his life—each of his dreams became a reality.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED . . . ?

● How Obama overcame financial trouble to be

Millionaire-in-Chief?

“I’m sorry, Mr. Obama, but your [credit] card’s been

rejected. . . . I tried twice, sir.”
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

“The big issue around the Senate for me [Michelle O.]

was, how on earth can we afford it . . . people forget that
his [Obama] credit card was maxed out. How are we
going to get by?”

● How Obama overcame career trouble to be

Commander-in-Chief?

“Not being a delegate, I [Obama] couldn’t secure a floor

pass . . . I ended watching most of the speeches on various
television screens.”

● How Obama overcame marriage trouble to be a

loving husband?

“Tired and stressed, we had little time for conversation,

much less romance. . . . By the time Sasha was born . . . my
wife’s anger toward me seemed barely contained.” And “I
was stung by such accusations . . . I found myself subjected
to endless negotiations . . . long lists of things that I needed
to do or had forgotten to do, and a generally sour attitude.”

● How Obama overcame fear to ask for his desire?

“Absent great personal wealth, there is basically one way of

raising . . . money . . . you have to ask . . . people . . . it was
not fun. . . . I started engaging in elaborate games of
avoidance during call time. Frequent bathroom breaks,
extended coffee runs . . .”
PREFACE

● How Obama overcame self-doubt to manifest his

desire?

“I [Obama] began to harbor doubts about the path I had

chosen.”

I hope you will continue to read and master Obama’s Nine

Secret Tools for Success™ and apply these tools to your life.
After all, Anthony Robbins tells us that “success is not . . . some
sort of random roll of the dice;” instead, “there are . . . specific
pathways to excellence, that are within the reach of us all. we
can all unleash the magic within us.”

He [Obama] hit the American scene like a thunderclap,

upended our politics, shattered decades of conventional
wisdom and overcame centuries of the social pecking order.

T he intention of Obama and the Secret Revealed is to

demonstrate how Obama used Nine Secret Tools or
simply Obama’s Nine Secret Tools for Success™ to achieve what
many thought to be impossible by winning the 2008
presidency. This popular attitude is illustrated by George W.
Bush, quoted by Richard Wolffe in Renegade:

In February 2007, as Obama was readying the formal

launch of his campaign, President Bush cast his expert
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

eye across the contenders who wanted to succeed him.

Sitting in the yellow oval room of the White House, on
the second-floor residence of the executive mansion,
the president conceded he had no idea who would win
the GOP nomination. But he was clear about the other
side. “I think Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic
nominee . . . I’ll tell you why. I think she will because I
think she has staying power, star power, and money
power. She brings a big organization that is well funded
right off the bat, and one of the lessons I learned is you
have to be able to play the long ball.” As for
Obama, . . . Bush was deeply doubtful. “Certainly a
phenom and very attractive. The guy is very
smart . . . [But] this primary election process is
rough . . . It’s really tough and rightly so. It exacerbates
your flaws and tests your character. And I don’t think
he’s been around long enough to stand it.”

Nonetheless, for Obama, his ascent may have been

improbable, but not impossible as he admitted early in his
campaign: “I am not a great candidate now, but I am
going . . . to be a great candidate.” Why would he declare such a
statement? Because he knew what others failed to see, his
invisible inner power that’s in all of us. In Secrets of the
Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker reveals the nature of this
power: “It’s what’s invisible that creates what’s visible . . . If
you want to change the visible, you must first change the in-
visible.”
INTRODUCTION

THE BIRTH OF OBAMA’S INVISIBLE INNER

POWER

You must dare to investigate all the mental laws lying

outside the realm of known physical processes—laws that
have undoubtedly had and will continue to
have, an impact on your life.
—DENNIS KIMBRO

To reach his ultimate goal, Obama choose to use the

wisdom implanted decades ago by his most important guide:
“It is only in retrospect, of course, that I fully understand how
deeply this spirit of hers [his mother] influenced me—how it
sustained me . . . how it buoyed me through the rocky shoals
of my adolescence, and how it invisibly guided the path I
would ultimately take;” Obama discussing his mother’s
influence on him.

INFLUENCES

Ms Suryakusuma was one of [Ann]Dunham’s closest

friends and recalls her as “new age”–in that she was
interested in spirituality but also “very, very disciplined.”
—THE INDEPENDENT (UK)

In essence, Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, an anthro-

pologist, followed the footsteps of one of her heroes, Joseph
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

Campbell (Campbell’s work also inspired George Luca’s Star

Wars Trilogy). “One of her favorite TV shows,” Richard Wolffe
explains, “was Joseph Campbell and the Power of
Myth . . . tracing the common themes of religions and
mythologies across the world.” Most importantly, Campbell
advised to “follow your bliss,” in other words, build your inner
power and be your own creator. Ann would instill in her son a
sense of the spiritual journey—to have an open mind and
believe “in a higher power” and “in the fundamental order and
goodness of the universe,” as described by Newsweek:

The story of Obama’s faith begins with his mother, Ann.

Raised in the Midwest by two lapsed Christians, she
lived and traveled throughout the world appreciating all
religions . . . One of Ann’s favorite spiritual texts was
“Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth,” . . . When
the family lived in Indonesia, Ann, on occasion, would
take the children to Catholic mass; after returning to
Hawaii, they would celebrate Easter and Christmas at
United Church of Christ congregations. Ann later went
back to Indonesia with Maya, and when Obama visited,
they would take him to Borobudur, one of the largest
Buddhist temples in the world. Later, while working in
India, Ann lived for a time in a Buddhist monastery.

Moreover, from his autobiography, Dreams from My Father,

INTRODUCTION

Obama relates how his maternal grandfather Stanley

Dunham, treasured Dale Carnegie’s famous book, How to Win
Friends and Influence People. To charm his customers,
Dunham consciously applied Carnegie’s teachings as Obama
observed, “And growing up, I [Obama] would hear in him
[Stanley] the breezy, catty style that he must have decided
would help him with his customers.”

In The Positive Thinker’s 10 Commandments, Alice Potter

advised that “How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale
Carnegie . . . should be the Bible for those who need training
and guidance in the fine art of getting along with people in
everyday business and social situations.”

In fact, during the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama

put into practice one of Dale Carnegie’s principles: “Don’t
criticize, condemn, or complain,” as he gained the label “No
drama Obama.”

And also, Obama embraced the self-reliant attitude of his

mother that he should be a creator, “Bar [Obama], you can’t
just sit around like some good-time Charlie, waiting for luck
to see you through.” In time,
Obama took full control to No one has written your

OBAMA THE CREATOR OF HIS DESTINY

But I am also a big believer in the Golden Rule, which I

think is an essential pillar not only of my faith but of my
values and my ideals and my experience here on Earth.
—BARACK OBAMA

The Golden Rule is called the Law of Karma, “the

universal law of cause and effect” and also referred to as “the
metaphysical equivalent of Newton’s First Law—every action
has an equal and opposite reaction,” wrote Brahma Kumaris’s
author, Ken O’Donnell or simply stated by the Bible
“whatever you sow, you reap.”

In Think And Grow Rich: A Black Choice, motivational

speaker and author Dennis Kimbro, gracefully describes that
“cause and effect is a mental law that never fails. Day by day
you write your own destiny. Thoughts are causes, and
conditions in your life
are effects.”
Therefore, karma implies
the action of conscious
choice-making.
—DEEPAK CHOPRA

In my book, Obama and the Secret Revealed, you will

learn about the Nine Secret Tools Obama consciously applied
INTRODUCTION

during the 2008 presidential election to shape his destiny.

These Nine Secret Tools or Obama’s Nine Secret Tools for
Success™ freed him from frustration, anger, self-doubt, and
other negative emotions associated with politics and
campaigning. In the words of New Yorker writer Kelefa
Sanneh, Obama’s “. . . 2008 campaign demonstrated one way
to harness the political power of positive thinking.”

Keep reading and learn how Obama unleashes those

positive powers during the 2008 election.
Since we are made in his image, as the Bible says we are,
then we should have access to all the power we need to
live successfully and triumphantly.

WARENESS

I’d suggest that the X factor which sets Barack Obama

aside as a unique candidate is his hard-won self-
awareness.
—DEEPAK CHOPRA
I don’t get too high when I’m high, and I don’t
get too low when I’m low.
—BARACK OBAMA

A t any given moment we can either be in a constructive

state that supports us or in a destructive state that’s
against us. “There are enabling states—confidence, love, inner
strength, joy . . . or paralyzing states—confusion, depression,
fear, anxiety, sadness . . . ,” Anthony Robbins describes in
Unlimited Power.

So, if we want to change our lives, change direction or

focus on a goal, we have to be aware of the state we are in. In
Ask and It Is Given, Esther and Jerry Hicks, noted: “The key to
moving up the vibrational emotional scale is to be
consciously aware of . . . the way you feel . . .” because “if you
are not aware of how you
feel, you cannot understand When we feel, we become
more alert, because we

OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

Thus, awareness is a powerful tool to shape our lives. As

observed by Stephen R. Covey in his book, First Things First,
“self-awareness is our capacity to stand apart from ourselves
and examine our thinking, our motives . . . our actions, and
our habits and tendencies. . . . It

existence.
—ECKHART TOLLE

Obama consciously used the Secret Tool Awareness during

the 2008 election. It is one of the more important tools
Obama used years ago to salvage his life from the brink of
self-destruction.

AWARENESS AS A TOOL TO TRANSFORM

We have to transform ourselves in order to

transform the world.
—BARACK OBAMA

Obama’s cool demeanor is not an accident. Based on the

Secret Tool Awareness he not only observes his thoughts and
actions but chooses his behavior accordingly. “I had to work
SECRET TOOL 1-AWARENESS

very hard to become aware of myself,” Iyanla Vanzant from

her inspiring book, In the Meantime. She explains how she
used awareness as a tool to shape her life:

Reflection, evaluation, and unlearning require a

willingness to do the grunge work. I had to sift
through and discard many of my beliefs and ideas
about myself and love. In other words, I had to change
the picture. It was like cleaning house, trying to
identify things that were dusty or broken, throwing
out things I didn’t need anymore. I had to throw away
those things which had sentimental value but were no
longer practical. . . . Slowly, methodically . . .

For Obama, the process to break from self-destructive

behaviors began on this particular day; as he awaits his
initiator into the land of self-destruction, the awareness of his
negative actions suddenly manifested. Here, Obama got
mindful of his troubled life, “right
then an image popped into my What is outside of

through a vein and stopping my
heart . . .”

Right before his eyes, the patterns of his destructive life

OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

emerged: “Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the

final, fatal role of the young would-be black man.” In his
book A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle notes, “some people never
forget the first time they disidentified from their thoughts
and thus briefly experienced the shift in identity from being
the content of their mind to being the awareness in the
background . . .” and Tolle concludes that the process is
irreversible. Once, “the process of awakening has begun.
Once it has done so, it cannot be reversed.” Dr. Andrew Weil
concurs, “this mental shift may be the master key that
unlocks healing.”

As Obama mastered the Secret Tool Awareness, he took

appropriate actions to change his life. As Dr. Wayne Dyer
observes in Inspiration, “there is no way to be in-Spirit
without a changed awareness—so when we accomplish this,
we give ourselves the

magnificent.”

Indeed, to expand his inner power, Obama discovered

meditation or reflection. Just like Mark Twain, Obama

realized that meditation or “reflection is the beginning of
reform.” Evidently, only a calm mind is capable of focusing
and discerning information. Because when the mind is in a
state of stress, fear, anxiety, or anger; the brain survival
mechanism of fight-or-flight response is activated and the
thinking part of the
brain is inhibited. Meditation is often
misunderstood as
some . . . mysterious ritual
practiced by isolated monks and
mystics. But meditation is simply
focused thinking—a skill anyone
can learn and use anywhere.
—RICK WARREN

“Meditation is a mental discipline of focusing the

mind . . . to efficiently think and act without the burden of
reactive thinking,” Dawn Groves expressed in Yoga for Busy
People. To focus his mind, Obama began keeping “a journal of
daily reflections.” This wise habit began during his
undergraduate years and this routine continues today.
According to his biographer, David Mendell, Obama used his
reflection time not only to record his daily “observations” but
also to monitor his “emotions.”
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

AWARENESS AS A TOOL IN POLITICS

Time to think [is] the most important time for somebody

who’s trying to shift an organization, or . . . the country.
—BARACK OBAMA

● PAYING ATTENTION

Pay attention.
—LOLO, Obama’s stepfather

Throughout the 2008 election the “act of paying

attention” helped Obama keep up with his campaign
activities as he told political commentator and author
Richard Wolffe, “I was paying attention . . .” monitoring the
numbers in Iowa and elsewhere.

● CHOOSING THE RIGHT PEOPLE

I think he was very strategic in his choice of friends and

mentors . . .
—TONI PRECKWINKLE

Years ago when Obama was mastering the Secret Tool

SECRET TOOL 1-AWARENESS

Awareness, he knew there were certain behaviors he would not

compromise. So, he consciously kept away from those who
would interfere with his new life: “In their mannerisms, their
speech, their mixed-up hearts,
I kept recognizing pieces of Choose your friends
myself. And that’s exactly what carefully.
—MARIAN EDELMAN
scared me . . . I needed to put
distance between them and
myself, to convince myself that I wasn’t compromised—that I
was indeed still awake,” he wrote. With the Secret Tool
Awareness, Obama took on this new habit of deliberately
choosing his friends and mentors. This awareness was a great
benefit during the 2008 election as Obama used the same
discipline to select his campaign staff.

Clearly, Obama’s knowledge of awareness helped to

harmonize his presidential campaign. “What I want around
me are people who are calm, who don’t get too high and don’t
get too low, because that’s how I am.” One by one, the seeds of
a Buddha-like nature were implanted in their consciousness.
The motto inside the campaign was “No Drama with Obama.”

Further, this deliberate move helped Obama to focus on

his goal and avoid potential infightings. Had he not done so,

he would have resonated with negative frequencies and

attracted more things to fight

that ‘like attracts like,’

you are complaining, he projected.
you are actually
attracting ‘crap’ into
you life.
—T. HARV EKER

In other words, Obama’s knowledge of the Secret Tool

Awareness kept him “self-contained.” According to Newsweek,
Obama “seemed uninterested . . . by the mindless tit-for-tat of
modern political campaigning.” After all, “Obama didn’t enjoy
a good hate. That would be a waste of time and emotion . . .”

● GETTING UNSTUCK

Man is not the creature of circumstances, circumstances are

the creatures of men.
—BENJAMIN DISRAELI

With the Secret Tool Awareness, Obama rose over his

political obstacles. He learned to use these setbacks in a
SECRET TOOL 1-AWARENESS

positive way. Like Dale Carnegie who influenced Obama s

grandfather, Stanley Dunham; Obama is “a strong believer in
making lemonade out of lemons.” He would turn obstacles
into teachable moments. A good example of this was during
the 2000 Democratic Primary as Obama challenged the
incumbent Bobby Rush for
his Chicago congressional Remember, it’s awareness,

the key to open the door to
the secret place.
—JOHN R. PRICE

But in Obama’s words, “it was a race in which everything

that could go wrong did go wrong.” And he later blamed his
loss to negative thoughts like anxiety as he told David
Mendell, his biographer, “it really had more to do with me
feeling anxious to be in the mix.” However, after his 2000
defeat said Mendell, Obama “conducted some soul searching”
and it took him months to recover and overcome the “ANTs”
coined by the psychiatrist, Daniel Amen, in Healing the
Hardware of the Soul, for “automatic negative thoughts.”

As Dr. Amen elaborates, “having bad thoughts is like

having an ANT invasion in your head. When you feel sad,
blue, anxious, or mad, there is often an ANT invasion fueling
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

the bad feeling. You need a strong, internal anteater to get rid
of the ANTs and the bad feelings that follow the ANTs.”

Ultimately, Obama overcame those “ANTs” as he recounts

how he got unstuck from the loss: “Denial, anger, bargaining,
despair—I’m not sure I went through all the stages prescribed
by the experts. At some point, though, I arrived at
acceptance . . .” As Dr. Andrew Weil said, “once you are aware
of habits of thought that lead to negative emotions, you can
begin to substitute other ones.”

This acceptance helped Obama master his emotions. This

was clear during the 2008 campaign where he maintained an
inner balance despite the circumstance. According to one
staffer quoted by The New Yorker, “his demeanor when he
won the Iowa caucuses and his demeanor when he lost New
Hampshire were not much different.” In the end, he turned
the loss in New Hampshire into a triumphant positive
moment; using what Rhonda Byrne, author of the best seller,
The Secret called “Secret Shifters.” The self-motivator slogan,
“yes we can,” changed his

THE MEDIA TOOK NOTICE

According to Men’s Health, there were “head scratching”

moments “from members of the press . . .being unable to recall
a single instance of campaign-trail perspiration . . .” by Obama.
Clearly, this demonstrates Obama’s mastery of awareness as a
tool to control his emotions. Thus, during the 2008 election his
serenity and mannerisms would earn him headlines for his
apparent self-awareness; as demonstrated by the following
press quotes:

● Reporters marveled curiously at Obama’s exceptionally

cool exterior as others around him exhibited jubilation.

● One of Obama’s greatest talents is that, even in the midst

of chaos, he has the ability to slow things down internally, to
project serenity, a sense of emotional control . . . the ability to
slow the game down and see everything around him clearly.

● Obama was, if nothing else, highly disciplined.

● His body language is restrained, his emotional range

narrow . . .

● As McCain gained ground in September, Democrats

demanded that Obama get hotter and meaner. But he
barely touched the thermostat.
OBAMA AND THE SECRET REVEALED

●“It was very important to have a consistent team,” Obama

says, a circle of people who were collaborative and nonden-
fensive.

Awareness helped Obama maintain his focus on his goal.

That’s what mental power is about, said Linda Hamilton and
Gary Zukav in The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness,
“the first step in creating automatic power requires you to
become aware of everything that you are feeling, all of the
time.” People from all walks of life took notice of Obama’s
