Fairmount Sherpa... An SS08 veteran

with the release of ShipSim
2008 and is the first offshore
tug to be featured.
Built in 2005 by Niigata
Shipbuilding of Japan she is
part of the Fairmount class
and with a maximum bollard
pull of 205 tonnes she has the
power to undertake big tows.
The ship is 75.05 metres long
and has a minimum and
maximum draught of 4.08
metres and 6.8 metres
respectively.
Sherpa is powered by four
Wärtsilä 6L 32 engines and is
propelled by two propellers
each 3.85 metres in diameter.
Her bow thrusters provide
her with an extra 825kW as
well as 736kW from her stern
thrusters which enable her to
manoeuvre easier in ports.

Let’s take a touch on some of
the events that happen in the
harbour. One of the largest
is the fourth of July
fireworks. Every year on
Americas Independence Day
there are several barges
placed around the harbour
displaying an incredible
fireworks display. There are
also the Superboat races
along with the ‘Poker Run’
speedboat races. One of the
forgotten events are the
tugboat races ...yes, you heard
me tugboat races! It's pretty
self explanatory; this is where
several tugboat companies
enter tugboats to race each
other. It's quite the event!
I'm trying not to go too
overboard so now I'll just
give some general
information about the
harbour. As you know in the
game there are several
bridges, sometimes posing

well known is the Verrazano-
Narrows Bridge, the gateway
to New York Harbour linking
Staten Island to Brooklyn.
Now there are the bridges on
the East River, an easy way to
remember them are the
'BMW' bridges, standing for
Brooklyn Manhattan and
Williamsburg bridges. The
last bridge featured in the
environment is the 59th street
Bridge.
Points of interest include,
one of my favourites: South
Street Seaport. Several
ferries/harbour cruises leave

Bugsier 2 first came to our screens back in 2008. Several years
on in 2011 she is still a popular vessel in the ShipSim series.
With the launch of the New
Horizons add-on pack on
March 25th 2008, for the first
time Ship Simulator fans had
the opportunity to pilot an
azimuth tractor tug, the new
vessel being the Bugsier 2.
