open shortly after the first tee time and were quickly
assembled into the following teams by their order of
arrival (well, except for the Commissioner’s team
which was admittedly hand picked and which later
proved to be an omniscient move by the head
ATAGer). The field increased to 21 players when
one member not on the list unexpectedly showed up
but was allowed to join the last group which played
as a fivesome.

OLD TIMERS GRAB THE NECTAR!

In yet another close match, original ATAGers Danny

Morris, Don Nichols, and Mike Gaddis teamed up with
guest visitor Keith Morris of Gainesville, Ga, to edge out
two other teams for the victory with a score of 12
under. Also in a close finish, the right to provide the
complimentary brew to the victors was granted to Team
4 members Andy Tyber, Craig Sellner, Tom Player,
and Tom Thornhill who finished at 8 under.

“Over and over again, I MORRIS FIRES 34! (no, not that Morris)

by the guy who makes the veteran Danny Morris, never saw a hole he didn’t like

Jim Thorpe far behind at even par. The younger Morris, a strapping
former college baseball star, potentially could have
broken Brad Reese’s all time ATAG record had he not
three putted both par fives after landing his second shot
on the green both times.

THORNHILL GRABS LOW NET!

HEALY AND NICHOLS REBOUND!
SELLNER RETURNS TO FORM!
Thirteen handicapper Two Glove Tom Thornhill (a
career ten handicapper) grabbed the Low Net with a net
score of 4 under. Sixteen handicapper Doug Healy
rebounded from last week’s “had a bad day” to shoot his
best round of the ATAG season in posting a 41 for a net 3
under (eight shots better than the prior week), and Don
Nichols also improved seven shots in seven days
(mentioned here as a note of encouragement to Doug
Gooding). Topping the charts on this day was Craig
ATAG Sellner who, after successive weeks of improvement,
Ansley Tuesday Afternoon returned to his old self to earn the day’s high score of 54
Golf Tour that, despite a 28 handicap, resulted in a net 4 over.

DAY!
Nine handicapper Richard Batelaan turned misery into
fortune to earn the day’s “Shot Of The Day”. As told by
his team mates, Batelaan’s wayward “Mickelson” tee
shot on #4 found its way two holes over to # 6 fairway,
“One of the most blocked out by the trees and a long way from the green.

Peter Jacobsen BIRDIE CLUB ADDS TO ITS TOTAL!
Seven birdies were added to the Birdie Club total on
this day, two by Keith Morris and one each by Danny
Morris, Bill Meagher, Andy Tyber, Jim Bernhardt, and
Tom Thornhill.

OTHER TIDBITS:
• There were no fines issued during the match as
everyone on the day’s roster showed up and the pace of
play was smooth and orderly. However, a Letter Of
Reprimand was issued to Mike Gutt and Richard
Batelaan for leaving before the end of the match and not
participating in the social festivities.

▪ The mood was festive on the porch as players

waited for all groups to finish. The initial topic of
discussion was the Mickelson melt down, but it later
turned into joke night after a lead off by ATAG humorist
Danny Morris was followed by jokes from Bill Meagher,
Tom Kisgen, Keith Morris, Mike Gaddis, Tim Martin,
and Tom Player. As usual, most, if not all, of the jokes
had been heard before by one or more of the players but
that did not detract from the evening’s enjoyment. Bill
Benning contributed some more of his dark side
material, causing some guttural moans and prompting
others to suggest that he should seek counseling. Danny
Morris announced he would have a “reading” next
week, prompting Scotty Greene to say that he would
follow up with a little John Updike, and Marty Arnold was
given the assignment to bring a “new” joke to next
week’s meeting.

▪ A contrite Ron Majors made a cameo appearance

● Some eyebrows were raised at the “outsider”

Keith Morris’s eight handicap, but brother Danny
quickly vouched for him, which then immediately caused
every one to call for a review by the Handicap
Committee. The Commissioner denied the request,
Leaders In The acknowledging the conflict of interest, and then changed

Best Team Score: -15 improved frame apparently had the opposite effect on his
five handicapper swing as he once again headed to the
practice range after a welcome back score of 40.

• Marty Arnold announced that he was through with

his “metro sexual’ phase (as he chugged a beer and
munched on a sandwich) and was now working on a
“macho man” persona that may involve a visit to a
tattoo parlor. Ollie Kennon made no such
announcement but also gave no explanation as to why he
appeared to be growing a pony tail.
