Descriptive Essay

This lazy Saturday morning was the first day of summer. It was like a breath of fresh air

to the body. Finally no more getting up at insanely early hours, and one can relax and just enjoy

the world. I was so used to my blaring alarm going off in such a rythmic, monotone pattern, that

to wake up without it going on was a blessing in and of itself. When I rolled out of my bed, that

seemed to hold me just like a cloud would, I just stood there, stretching every muscle, feeling so

relaxed. It was as if my body knew summer was here and they took to it, like a child takes to a

new play thing. I got up, and decided what better way to kick off summer than to take a nice run

in the local park. I put my clothes on and headed out to my car. It seemed eager to get this day

started as well. Because, as soon as I put that key in the ignition, it roared to life; tired of what

the cold weather was doing to its engine, it seemed a little too perky this early in the morning.

We zoomed down the road, all windows open, oh the smells and sounds of summer. The breezes

were so serene and they just calmly wafted into the car, filling up every inch of it with its beauty.

You could smell everyone going out to mow their lawns and kick off summer with a bang. The

smells of freshly cut grass, and just a clean smell were all over. You could hear little kids finally

getting to go outside and run around. They were laughing in their high pitched voices, throwing

big orange and blue balls at each other, and watching the sticky red substance of the popsicles

they ate run down their sweaty, grimy faces. I continued to drive down the road, and saw an

elderly couple walking their big german shepard down the road. The dog trying to run and the

couple laughing and restraining was really perfect. They just seemed so happy to be able to be

together still.I finally made it to the park and to my surprise the local baseball team’s tournament

was just getting started. I decided to sit down and watch a couple innings. I could smell the

popcorn smell wafting from the concession stand, almost temping and taunting me with it’s

delicious smell. I could hear the umpire yelling strike, in the most manly voice he could muster,

and all the players reactions were different. You had the pushovers who agreed with anything

that was said then you had the trouble-makers, who loved to argue with whatever the umpire said

if it was not it their favor. After a couple of innings I remembered that I had came to the park to

run. I hopped up, in an almost perky fashion and hit to the trail. I ran past a beautiful, flowing

creek, a very loud woodpecker who had not a care in the world, and past a seemingly unaware

raccoon that was about to get busted by the local garbage man. I kept running until I was

completely out of breath then I headed back to my car. I revved up it’s engine and headed home

to get ready for the rest of this glorious day to come. After I had cleaned my room and taken a

cool shower, I got a phone call from my boyfriend asking if I wanted to come over and eat with

his family. I was so excited and glad to go over there. When I got over there, he decided to tell

me the detail he missed on the phone call. It turns out we were the ones making dinner for

everyone else. So this is what it came down to, testing my cooking skills for his whole entire

family. We decided on taco salad and apple pie. As we set to making this delectable meal, his

adorable little brother comes in and wants to help. He grabs the lettuce and runs with it down the

hallway, and like a cops and robbers chase we follow in pursuit. We finally caught up with him

and brought the lettuce back to the kitchen, from then on out we kept food at a nice distance from

the edge. It was around five-o-clock when we finished cooking, and the smell coming from the

kitched was unseemingly delicious for two nineteen year olds. His parents and sister came in and

we all sat down for a, hopefully, delicious meal. It turned out to be quite great. We all talked and

laughed, and the laughter seemed almost contagious. We all just had a great time, enjoying each

other’s company. My boyfriend decided that a movie watching was in order, and that is when I

proceeded to make fun of him, because he wanted to watch a movie on the first day of summer.

But we reached a quick consensus that there really was nothing else to do at eight-o-clock at

night on a Monday night. So we settled in for a nice night of movie watching. Since his two-

year-old brother was there we decided that a Disney movie night was in store. Just sitting there in

the cozy living room, snuggled up watching that movie seemed like the epitome of summer.

When it was over we all decided to go grab some ice cream. We got in the car and just let the

breeze come in and out, putting my hair in a frantic, disorderly state. When we arrived we

ordered our delicious ice cream. Ice cream was like a cool feeling rushing all the way down to

your toes, it made your body get chills, and dripped all over you, yet you did not even care when

it got everywhere. We sat outside and enjoyed our cones, and while we were sitting out there I

could not help but to look up at the stars just floating there. They seemed to have such an easy

life. They floated around, never cared what anyone thought of them, and it probably always felt

like summer to them. They had this freedom about them, sort of what summer felt like for me. It

made me think how easy it was to be a child. All they had to worry about was what they would

have for snack time and if the cute boy or girl would give them a flower at recess. My mind was

beginning to float into uncharted territory when I was all the sudden snapped back into reality by

a cold substance falling on my leg. It turns out while I was daydreaming my ice cream had made

its way to my bare leg. We realized what time it was and knew I had to get home soon, so we got

our stuff and got in the car. On the way home we just let the cool breeze cover us up like a

blanket and let the crickets make the soundtrack for our drive. When we got back to his house I

went inside to say goodnight to his family, and then headed out to my car to drive home. On the

way home I jammed out to some country music enjoying the drive. I got home, and it started to

hit me, how tired I actually I was. As soon as I laid down in my bed it seemed to swallow me up

like a cloud, and to engulf me like high tide at dawn. I seemed to fall asleep as soon as I laid my

head down. In what seemed like no time I heard this monotonous, loud, beeping sound in the

distance. I slowly arouse and came to the realization that my beautiful summer day was actually

a dream.
