FIRST WORD March 26 & 27, 2011

Conference Friday, April 1st, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 2nd, 8:00 - noon
Tickets available in the Commons
Cost = $35

First Baptist Church Naples

Where the Rubber Meets the Road
As a businessman, pastor, missionary statesman, and
Christian leader, Dr. Bob Reccord says to men, “Let’s get to
the bottom line!” In our upcoming Men’s Conference on
Friday evening and Saturday morning, he will get beyond
the superficial and the fluff to share how real men can live
in a real world with real faith. Bob is one of our church’s favorite speakers
and nationally known as a former executive with Evangelism Explosion,
President of the North American Mission Board, pastor of large churches,
and a successful businessman. He is one of my closest friends and
encouragers, and certainly one of America’s most gifted communicators.
He is currently influencing men around the world, while uniquely serving
as President of the Council for National Policy, based in Washington, D.C.,
an organization focused on working with leaders nationally to partner in
restoring our founding principles as a nation. Since Bob’s mother-in-law
has a condo here in Naples, he has been a repeat visitor to our area and
has a unique love for Florida and our church.

During the Conference, we will explore in four sessions how to live

effectively in a fast-paced world. We will understand the importance
of surrender versus commitment and answer the question, “Who’s in
control?” Also, as Bob writes, “The plumb line of effective Christian living
is not simply doing Christian activities, but obedience is what makes
the rubber meet the road.” We need to learn how to make good choices
with discernment. What are the critical guidelines, boundaries, and
consequences? Of course, so much of life for men tends to involve career.
God calls us to have the right focus. This helps us to discover how work,
faith, and family can be integrated. You don’t have to “check your faith at
the door.”

Guys, mark April 1 & 2 on your calendar. It is okay to come directly from
work or in work clothes. If you can only come one day and not the other
because of your job, don’t let that stop you. Let’s learn authenticity, reality,
dependability, and consistency as a man in “the battle for godliness.”

Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the
Saturday night and Sunday morning 11:00 a.m. service. Come and meet
Dr. Wicker.
Celebrating 19 years of ministry
at First Baptist Church Naples!
Thank you for your vision and
sacrificial service!
We love you Pastor and Janet!

COUNSELOR TRAINING
Friday, April 1 (6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)
& Saturday, April 2 (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
In Room WC117
Each year, hundreds of women facing crisis pregnancies enter the doors of Pregnancy
Resource Center of Southwest Florida believing abortion is their only option. They meet
with volunteer counselors who lend a caring ear. The counselors share the truth about
abortion with these women and encourage them to make life-giving decisions by
providing resources to meet their physical needs and support to meet their emotional
needs. Perhaps even more important than encouraging the women to choose life, the
counselors pray and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with these women. Just like the
Samaritan woman in John 4 who came to the well for water to drink and left after having
a life-changing encounter with Jesus, each woman that enters the Pregnancy Resource
Center leaves with the life-changing knowledge of The Living Water of Jesus Christ.

The training will equip you to serve as a pregnancy center peer counselor. You will learn:
• the thoughts and feelings of women in crisis pregnancies.
• caring communication skills.
• how to present information on abortion and information on positive alternatives.
• how to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

If you would like to join us for training, or want more information before you
decide, please call Norma in the Women’s Ministry at 596-8600 x241. Also, for more
information about Pregnancy Resource Center in general, don’t hesistate to visit our
website at www.supportprc.com.

The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
They ask volunteers to commit to a four hour shift per week (either 9:30 a.m.-
1:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.). They need volunteers in the center and in
the Mobile Unit.

Renegades for Christ
Street Ministry in Immokalee
In the Missions Kiosk this weekend in the Commons
The founder of this ministry is Lenny
Gross, whose family has been a member
of the First Baptist Church Immokalee for
many years. In fact, Lenny’s grandfather
was a cowboy for a rancher in this area
prior to Immokalee even being a village.
Renegades for Christ reaches out to the
local population and migrant workers
with a street ministry, block parties, and
christian movies.
At our street ministry, we feed the
folks physically with a hot meal, and
spiritually with the word of God. We
witness to them, distribute bibles, tracks,
clothes, and fit people with reading
glasses. Typically the preaching is done
in both Spanish and Creole. Our goal
is to evangelize Immokalee, reach the
unsaved, and direct them to the local
churches.
Lastly, with our christian movie ministry,
the audience will dictate the language
and the type of movie we will show in
order to capture the largest possible
crowd. We offer sodas and fresh popcorn
made at the location.

If you would like to get more information

about Renegades for Christ in Immokalee
or sponsor any part of our work, please
contact Peter Meili at 239-571-0422 or

Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted

Teacher: Sherri Dorrill Author: Priscilla Shirer Tuesday Only
What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! This study redefines
interruption showing that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our
wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in
an entire city.

A Trusted Friend: When It Matters Most

Teacher: Alicia Diller Author: Clinton/Springle Tuesday Only
Have you ever met a woman in the hallway and she shared bad news? Did you know what to say?
Does visiting a friend or loved one in the hospital make you anxious? Are you a good listener when a
friend has a problem? This study will give you confidence about what to say and when to refer a
person to a professional. Join other women who want to give a Christ-centered and caring response
to hurting people – because you’ll encounter these many times in your church, family, neighborhood,
and workplace.

What In the World Is Going On? 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Choose To Ignore
Teacher: Mary Ann Tindall Author: Dr. David Jeremiah Tuesday Only
The Bible has much to say about the end times. Yet it is hard to piece together all that information in
a way that gives a comprehensive picture of what that time period will look like. This study will focus
on 10 Bible prophesies and how they relate to Israel, oil, the European Union, Islam and today’s top
headlines.

For Women Only: The Bible Study

Teacher: Brenda Howard Author: Shaunti Feldhan Tues./Wed.
This Bible study relates to important issues of Christian marriage and how a godly wife can make a
powerful impact in that relationship. Based on the author’s insightful revelations about the inner
lives of men, this study will lead you to an important change in heart attitudes and life practices in
order to glorify Christ through your marriage.

Digging Deeper: A Theology Class for Women

Teacher: Janet Wicker Author: Navigators Tues./Wed.
This seminary-level class will explore biblically the basic doctrines that are foundational and
absolutely necessary to the Christian faith. We will use The Moody Handbook of Theology as our
class textbook. The following studies will be examined in lecture and Q&A session along with weekly
reading assignments through the 8 weeks we are together: Doctrines of the Bible, of God, of Christ,
of the Holy Spirit, of Angels, Satan, and Demons, of Man, of Sin, of Salvation, of the Church, of Last
Things.
Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask
Teacher: Cindy Starkweather Author: Angela Thomas Wednesday Only
Why can’t I get it together? Am I as invisible as I feel? What am I so afraid of? It takes a brave woman
to ask these questions and dig into these topics alongside other believers. We’ve all got insecurities,
flaws, and struggles that we’re afraid to address. But if we can be brave enough to raise the questions,
God will answer us. You’ve got questions. God’s got answers. Be brave. Ask.

Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food
Teacher: Debbie Norton Author: Lysa Terkeurst Wednesday Only
Has food become more about frustration than fulfillment? This study will explore the missing link
between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that
happen. This is not a how-to manual or the latest, greatest dieting plan. This study will instead
encourage woman to have their deepest need met by God and not food.

God’s Gift of Art

Teacher: Linda Shaw Various Sources Wednesday Only
Join us for a “broad-brush” introduction to the visual arts, with in a biblical worldview framework. In
this session we will: Learn about God’s glorious gift of art; Look at art-view, and analyze art through
the lens of Scripture; Let creativity shine-develop your “gift” of art. Student will need to bring a Bible,
drawing pad and pencil with eraser.

Loving God with All Your Mind

Teacher: Kathy Wood Author: Elizabeth George Wednesday Only
Drawing on biblical wisdom as well as personal experience, this study helps women handle their
emotions and discover inner peace that comes from focusing on what is true. You will be reminded
that loving the Lord involves action! Focusing on six scripture passages, will help you to understand
what it means to...let your mind think on what is true about God and about life, grasp and move
toward God’s purpose for life and trust the Lord in all things.

The Shelter of God’s Promises

Teacher: Rae Manchester Author: Sheila Walsh Wednesday Only
In a world of uncertainty, pain, and struggle, where do you find solid assurance and unshakeable
truth? In this riveting walk through some of the Bible's most compelling stories, you will study ten
bedrock promises of God, providing the foundation for daily confidence, joy, hope—and shelter. God
is the only promise maker who is always a promise keeper. And God’s promises will never fail you!

This Isn’t the Life I Signed Up For: But I’m Finding Hope and Healing
Teacher: Kim Hayes Author: Donna Partow Wednesday Only
When we’re challenged, we want to cry out, “Hey, God, this isn’t the life I signed up for! I specifically
remember signing up for great parents, a great marriage, and great kids who rise up and call me
blessed. I signed up for lifelong friendships, thin thighs, and vibrant health. Instead, I find myself in the
middle of the life I DIDN’T sign up for.” If you’re ready to discover a new approach to life—God’s
approach that promises hope and healing—then this study is for you!
Food Drive
Saturday, April 9 - Sunday, April 10
Due to the terrible economic conditions locally, Helps Outreach has
experienced an enormous surge in demand for food from struggling
families. This has led Joe & Angie Valentini to step out in faith to
expand their facility, enlarging the food pantry from 100 square feet
to 1,500 square feet. As a result, Helps Outreach is desperately in need
of food to fill their pantry.
Please bring any non-perishable food items to church with you
the weekend of April 9-10 and leave them in a bag behind your
car. Our volunteers will drive around that weekend to pick up the
items and deliver them to Helps Outreach.

Pray to End
Abortion.
Saturdays April 2, April 9, and April 16 -- 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
In 2010, FBCN supported both the Spring and Fall “40 Days for Life” prayer vigils at the
Planned Parenthood center in Naples (Goodlette and Creech Roads). Since “40 Days for
Life” began seven years ago, 3,600 infants have been spared, 43 abortion workers have
quit, and 9 abortion facilities have closed. In 2010, several infants were spared right here
in Naples.

To help this year, please email Jim Tindall at jrtfl@comcast.net.
