Exercise 4 Look at the pictures and read their description. Which description you
find poor and inappropriate. Correct this description.

A: There is a plane. It is in the center of the picture. We can see a couple of air
bridge. There are plane on the background and two people on the foreground. It is
winter and snow is everywhere. The view is unclear. I think it is very slippery there.

B: This is a photograph of an airport parking area on a fine and sunny day. The photo
was taken from some high object, possibly a terminal roof or a step ladder. There are
three light aircraft parked in the foreground. Two of them are facing the photographer
with their noses, and the third one, which is closer to the right bottom corner of the
photo, is parked with its tail to the photographer. All three aircraft seem to be of the
same type. Anyway, they all are high wing twin turboprops with conventional tail
units. The livery is also the same, white with blue stripes. In the background of the
picture there are numerous airport facilities, such as hangars and maintenance shops,
possibly even a general aviation terminal. Also, there are some aerodrome vehicles
(baggage conveyors and apron busses) parked in the vicinity of the hangars. The very
background shows some urban or even industrial area. The sky is clear with tiny
cloud patches in the upper right corner of the picture. In general, the photograph
shows a routine day on the tarmac.

Exercise 5 Compare both pictures and answer the questions:


1. How different will be the work in these airports?
2. Which season is the hardest for the airport workers?
3. In which weather condition an airplane won’t be allowed to take off?

Exercise 6 With your partner look at the following pictures and discuss Which
weather condition is perfect for these activities? Then together choose three activities
which you would like to do on your next holidays.

Exercise 4 Read the small article below and discuss the questions:
1. What entertainment is available on board of airplane?
2. Do you think it is worth having such entertainment on board?
3. What movies, music or games would you include to the entertainment system
if you were a person in charge of it?
4. How can you entertain yourself in a long-haul flight besides watching movies?

In-flight entertainment is offered as an option on almost all wide body aircraft,


while some narrow body aircraft are not equipped with any form of entertainment.
This is mainly due to the aircraft storage and weight limits. The Boeing 757 was the
first narrow body aircraft to widely feature both audio and video entertainment and
today it is rare to find a Boeing 757 without an entertainment system.
The largest international airlines sometimes pay more than $90,000 for a li-
cense to show one movie over a period of two or three months. These airlines usually
feature up to 100 movies at once, whereas 20 years ago they would have only 10 or
12. In the United States, airlines pay a flat fee every time the movie is watched by a
passenger. Some airlines spend up to $20 million per year on content.
