ISBN
Практикум содержит задания и упражнения на построение и использование в
речи основных функциональных грамматических единиц языка – простого предложения,
его обязательных и факультативных составляющих, а также различных моделей сложных
предложений. Его цель – совершенствование навыков и развитие умений использования
разнообразных грамматических способов и средств для построения грамматически
корректных и коммуникативно-эффективных предложений-высказываний. Каждый раздел
включает упражнения, способствующие формированию интегративной коммуникативной
компетенции студентов.

Exercise 1. Distinguish between obligatory and optional parts in the following


sentences.

Exercise 4. Make the following sentences elliptical. What types of elliptical


sentences are they (which parts of a sentence might be omitted)?

Exercise 14. Discuss the following questions in pairs or in small groups paying


your attention to the types of the questions.
1. Why do we need families?
2. Is the family ever likely to disappear as an institution?
3. Should the mother or the father be the head of the family (i.e. matriarchal and
patriarchal)?
4. What roles do the mother and father play in your society? And sons and
daughters? Who is the boss in your family?
5. What influence have your parents had on your life?
6. Whose influence was stronger – your mother's or your father's?

scrambled order. Rewrite the interview putting the sentences into the correct

Exercise 1. Fill in the table below in accordance with the structural type of the
subject in the following sentences.

Exercise 7. Translate into English using the construction with the emphatic it.

Exercise 8. Analyse the pronoun it used as the subject in the following sentences.
1. It doesn't matter. 2. It was very pleasant on the river's bank. 3. It's raining here at

took Stephen some time to work out what she meant. 6. It is impossible to make any

Exercise 9. Here are some well-known English proverbs. Define the type of it in
each of the sentences and make up dialogues using these proverbs.
1. It never rains but it pours.
2. It is the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.
3. It’s no use crying over spilt milk.
4. It is easier to pull down than to build.
5. It is the unexpected that always happens.
