3 IDU 605

About This Chapter

The IDU 605 is the PDH IDU of the OptiX RTN 600 and is used at an end node on a radio
transmission network. This chapter describes the functions, features, system architecture,
configuration of the logical boards, signal processing flow, front panel, and technical
specifications of the IDU 605.

3.1 Functions and Features

The IDU 605 processes PDH microwave services and provides common management channels
and auxiliary channels.
3.2 System Architecture
The IDU 605 consists of a series of functional units, including the service interface unit, IF unit,
control unit, auxiliary interface unit, and power unit.
3.3 Logic Board Configuration
An IDU 605 is composed of one system board and one power board. Each functional unit on
the physical boards of the IDU 605 corresponds to a logical board and is allocated with a logical
slot. In this way, the NMS can manage the functional units as independent objects.
3.4 Signal Processing Flow
This section describes the signal processing flow of the OptiX RTN 600 that uses the IDU 605
through the example of E1 signals.
3.5 Front Panel
There are cable interfaces, a power switch, an ODU switch, and indicators on the front panel of
the IDU 605.
3.6 Technical Specifications
The technical specifications of the IDU 605 include the following: IF performance, baseband
signal processing performance of the modem, E1 port performance, synchronous data interface
performance, asynchronous data interface performance, orderwire interface performance, board
mechanical behavior, and power consumption.

3.3 Logic Board Configuration

An IDU 605 is composed of one system board and one power board. Each functional unit on
the physical boards of the IDU 605 corresponds to a logical board and is allocated with a logical
slot. In this way, the NMS can manage the functional units as independent objects.

About This Chapter

The accessories of the OptiX RTN 600 IDU 610/620 include the E1 panel and the power
distribution unit (PDU). You can select the accessories depending on the requirements.

4.1 E1 Panel
When an IDU is installed in a 19-inch cabinet, you can install an E1 panel in the cabinet. The
E1 panel can function as the DDF of the IDU.
4.2 PDU
The PDU is installed on the top of a 19-inch cabinet. The PDU is used to distribute the input
power to the equipment in the cabinet.

4.2.2 Functions and Working Principle

The PDU realizes the simple power distribution function. The PDU distributes the input power
to the equipment in a cabinet.

Functions
l The PDU supports two inputs of –48 V/–60 V DC power.
l Each input power supply supports four outputs.
l The fuse capacity of the switch of each power output is 20 A.
l The PDU supports the DC-C and DC-I power distribution modes.

Working Principle
The PDU primarily consists of input terminals, output terminals, and miniature circuit breakers
(MCBs). The PDU provides the simple power distribution function for the input power.

About This Chapter

This section describes the purpose, appearance, and connections of various cables of the IDU
605.

5.1 Power Cable

The power cable connects the –48 V/–60 V power supply equipment such as the power
distribution box on the top of the cabinet to the IDU 605 to carry the –48 V/–60 V power into
the OptiX RTN 600 system.
5.2 Protection Ground Cable
The IDU, ODU, and E1 panel need to be grounded through their own protection ground cables.
5.3 IF Jumper
The IF jumper is used to connect the ODU and IF cable. The IF jumper is used together with
the IF cable to transmit the IF signal between the ODU and the IDU, O&M signal, and -48 V
power.
5.4 E1 Cable
The E1 cable is available in two types. One type of E1 cable connects the IDU 605 to the external
equipment and the other type of E1 cable connects the IDU 605 to an E1 panel.
5.5 Orderwire Line
The orderwire line is used to connect orderwire phone sets. Both ends of the line use RJ-11
connectors. One end connects the PHONE interface of the IDU 605 and the other end connects
the interface of the orderwire phone set.
5.6 Network Cable
Network cables are used to connect Ethernet equipment. Both ends of a network cable use RJ-45
connectors.

Network cables are used to connect Ethernet equipment. Both ends of a network cable use RJ-45

RJ-45 connectors have two types of interfaces. The first type is the medium dependent interface

Straight through cables are used between MDI and MDI-X interfaces, and crossover cables are
used between MDI interfaces or between MDI-X interfaces. The only difference between the
two network cables are the connections.
The ETH and ETH-HUB ports on IDU support MDI/MDI-X auto-sensing. Thus, both straight
through cables and crossover cables can be used between these ports and the MDI/MDI-X
interfaces.

payload at the transmit end the correction information based on which the bit
errors generated during transmission are corrected at the receive end.

I
IDU Indoor Unit. The indoor unit implements accessing, multiplexing/
demultiplexing, and IF processing for services.
IF Intermediate Frequency. IF is the transitional frequency between the
frequencies of a modulated signal and an RF signal.
IF board A board that processes microwave services.

N
Non- The RTN 600 microwave station on which the transmitted frequency is lower
primary than the received frequency.
station

O
ODU Outdoor Unit. The outdoor unit implements frequency conversion and
amplification for RF signals.
Orderwire Orderwire is a channel that provides voice communications among operation
engineers or maintenance engineers of different stations.

P
PDH Plesiosynchronous Digital Hierarchy. A multiplexing scheme of bit stuffing
and byte interleaving. It multiplexes the minimum rate 64 kit/s into the 2
Mbit/s, 34 Mbit/s, 140 Mbit/s and 565 Mbit/s rates.
Primary The RTN 600 microwave station on which the transmitted frequency is higher
station than the received frequency.

Primary Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol. The protocol is an evolution of the Spanning
station Tree Protocol, providing for faster spanning tree convergence after a
topology change.

S
SD Space Diversity. Two or more antennas separated by a specific distance
transmit/receive the same signal and selection is then performed between the
two signals to ease the impact of fading. Currently, only receive SD is used.

T
T2000 A subnet management system (SNMS). In the telecommunication
management network architecture, the T2000 is located between the NE level
and network level, which can supports all NE level functions and part of the
network level management functions.
Tributary A board that processes tributary services.
