PROFESSIONAL ADJUSTMENT SEMINAR

February 22, 2011- This is the date to remember when the Batch
Beneficence of St. Michael’s College has accepted the challenge to feel and
experience the world of professionalism, the Professional Adjustment
Seminar. This was organized to prepare us on venturing on the new horizon
of our chosen profession.

Preparing the seminar was such a fuss because it was somehow a

battle between blocks A and B, against each leaders and members, and
against our own comforts. Traditionally, the seminar should have been a 2-
day event with 1-day schedule stipulated for each block. However, this time
has been fused into 1 day for both blocks, as suggested by the college dean,
Mr. Vincentino P. Librado. The fusion was a great idea because, in connection
with the course NCM 105, Leadership and Management concepts, it really
tested how well we blend with each other, despite individual differences. It
weathered what kind of leaders we are, and had brought out the natural
leadership in us with just minimal guidance from our mentors.

The colloquium bore the theme, “Ensuring the Pathway of Nursing

Career: Maximum Effectiveness for Nursing Leadership Strategies for
Innovative Change Towards Global Qualification.” This spoke of the value of
the day’s event. Each block has chosen their own specific topic to be
discussed by their respective Resource Speaker. Block A’s slot was entitled
“Thinking Out of the Box: Nursing Leadership Management through Effective
Communication”; Block B’s had “Towards Greener Pasture: Documents to
Prepare for Visa Application.” Both titles geared the Level IV students as well
as the Clinical Instructors present on personal and professional growth on
our chosen vocation by identifying our leadership and managerial skills as
future nurses discussed by Engr. Alexander Calago, and by helping us out on
formulating plans on how to reap more economically by applying work
outside the country discussed by Mrs. Mary Ann K. Busico. Armored with the
formula, skills, knowledge, attitude plus experience, nurses can now start to
pack things up and buckle their seatbelts to the journey to greener pasture
for the actualization of the core cause why nursing has been preferred as a
course.
 Indeed, the sweat and tears wept processing the seminar had paid its
cause. Then it had been critiqued by the advisory bodies and was glorified
successful. It taught us to lead well, work well, deal fairly and appreciate the
every pint contribution each member of the block has made.

No one is a floater, neither one excelled on one part or the other. Nothing is
better nor worse compared to another because everyone has unique part
played on the event. No one is a looser nor a winner, because everyone
deserves a TWO THUMBS UP!
