“ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL


MANAGEMENT”
COURSE BROCHURE

Introduction

Finance may be defined as the art and science of managing money and
accounting function is a necessary input into the finance function. That is,
accounting is a subfunction of finance. Accounting generates
information/data relating to operations/activities of the organization and
reports that information to user to enable them to make appropriate
decisions.

Aim of the Program

The program is formulated to bring transparency and accountability in the


financial operation of the project funds with clear understanding of the
functions of accounting as,

1. Recording: The basic function of accounting is recording the


monetary aspect of all the transactions of the society in an orderly
manner for the purposes of memory and reference in a future period.
Recording is done the book called ‘Journal’.

2. Classifying: The transactions recorded in the ‘Journal’ or the


subsidiary books are classified and posted to the main book of account
known as ‘Ledger’ under appropriate individual account heads.

3. Summarizing: The transactions recorded in the Ledger will be


summarized and the balance in each Account will be ascertained and
list of such balances called ‘Trial Balance’ will be prepared at the end
of the accounting period. This becomes the basis of the final accounts
and the balance sheet.

4. Interpreting: The final stage in the Accounting process is analyzing


and interpreting the financial data contained in the final accounts and
help in financial planning for the future in better way.

Training Objectives
By the end of the programme the participants will be able to:

1. Carry out systematic records of all the transactions in the books of


accounts in compliance with the principles of commercial accounting.

2. Preparation of financial statements like -Statement of Expenditure


(SoE), Bank Reconciliation Statement (BRS), Report writing etc.

3. To record assets and liabilities and various receipts and payments of


the Society properly.

4. Budget preparation.

Entry Behaviour

It should be recognized that the entry behavior of participants is likely to be

Heterogeneous as:
• The functions and responsibilities associated with Accountants and
Member Secretary of the JFMCs are varied and different
• The participants may vary in mind set as their mode of attachment to
the project is different, where the Member Secretary of the JFMCs are
the Govt. employees and the Accountants are engaged on temporary
basis
• The participants might be from different age groups

Homogeneous as:
• All of them are engaged in the same project, with similar objectives
to pursue
• All are adult learners

Course duration and Design

It is designed as a 3-day program with 14 hours of inputs that contains 12


learning sessions.
